*Amelia's POV*

"And then mommy told me never to touch it ever again" Corey finished his story, dramatically, as I chuckled.
We were in the bathroom, looking for a bandaid. He bumped into something and scratched his knee a little, so he wanted a bandaid.
He saw some medicine bottle in the medicine closet, so he told me a story about how he once almost drank it and then Demi told him not to touch it.

"Lucas! Don't! That's dangerous!" I heard mom yell.
I ran to the bathroom, where they were.

"Why?" Lucas asked.
He was holding a small bottle with some fluid inside.

"That's a medicine, Lucas. It's dangerous"

"But if it's a medicine, it's supposed to make people better. How is it dangerous?"

"It's only good for you if you're sick and you need to heal. If you're not sick, it's not gonna help you. It's just gonna make you worse. Why did you even wanna drink it?" mom asked, as she took the bottle out of his hands and put it back in the closet.

"It smelled good"

"Why did you open it?" I asked.

"I wanted to see what's inside" he said, like it was obvious.

"I don't want you to ever touch this closet again, okay?" Mom warned him.

"Okay"

"Good. Now come downstairs and I'll make you something yummy to drink, yeah?"

He nodded and slid his hand into my mom's, as they walked down together.

Basically, Lucas and Corey did the same thing.
Why did little kids want to taste medicine? Did I ever do that, too?

"Let's go downstairs and drink something, yeah?" I asked.

"Yep" I took my hand and dragged me downstairs with him.

"Can I have hot chocolate?" he asked.

"Sure, buddy"

"Thank you"

"You're welcome"

"Do you think my daddy and mommy will make you my sister?"

"I don't think so"

"Why not?"

"Cause it's not so easy to just add another person to your family. There's a whole process that you have to go through. Besides, I kind of already have a new family"
Not that I'll ever consider them family.

"So did your new family then go through that all?"

"Yeah, they did even before they knew me"

"Oh. But I would do that to have you as my sister"

"That's very sweet of you, Corey. It makes me happy, but it's really not that easy. You can't just do that on your own"

"That's stupid"

"Yeah, maybe a little. Wanna eat some real food now?" I asked.

"Can we go somewhere?"

"Where do you wanna go?"

"McDonald's"

"Is there one near to your house?"

"Yep. I know the way by heart" he said, proudly.

"Okay. If you're sure you know the way, we can go there. Go put on your shoes. I'm just gonna text your daddy to let him know we're there"

He walked into his room and got his shoes.

"Can you help me?"

"Sure. Go sit down on the couch. I'll be there soon" I walked into 'my' room and got my purse and my phone.
I texted Drake to let him know we're leaving, so that if he comes home before we're back, he won't be worried.
I put on Corey's shoes and we left.

"Look, it's there" he pointed to the end of the street.
He released his hand from mine and started running towards it.

"Corey, please don't run" I yelled after him.
He stopped running and waited for me to catch up with him.
He slid his hand back in mine and walked nicely next to me.

"Thank you for not running" I smiled at him.

"Mommy always tells me that if someone doesn't want to run, I shouldn't either"

"Really? Why?"

"Because then I can make them feel pressured. And that's not good to make other people feel like that"

"You have a very wise mommy" I smiled at him.

"I know. She's even a cop"

"Did you ever go to work with her?" I asked, after we sat down with our food.

"Yeah. She only started after I was already one. I went with her two times, but she always says it's not for little kids"

"She's right. It isn't for little kids. It's not a fun place to be"

"I liked it when I was there"

"That's cause you were only there a short time and nothing happened in that time, but if all of a sudden something happens, it's no fun to be there"

We ate the rest of our food in silence.

As we walked on our way back home we came across something I wish he didn't have to witness.
