I looked up and saw Demi standing there, holding her hand over her heart, as she wiped away a tear that slipped out of her eye.I still didn't release Corey from my hug, which surprised me as much as her. I still hadn't shown my feelings to anyone but Corey.
We were both wondering why I wasn't putting up my facade, yet, but I wasn't ready. I needed Corey a little longer. She came towards us and sat down next to us. She put her arm on my back and rubbed it.
Automatically, I snuggled into her, as tears kept on streaming down my face and Corey was still tightly in my embrace.
It reminded me of the time dad was in the hospital."Where's daddy?" I asked, as mom served me and Lucas dinner, but dad wasn't there.
"He's not home, now" mom replied.
I could see that she was trying not to cry."What happened to him?"
"Nothing"
"Yeah, something did. Otherwise you wouldn't almost be crying. Is he in the hospital?"
"How'd you know?"
"I'm a prophetess"
Mom cracked a small smile.
"Why's he in the hospital?" Lucas asked.
"He wasn't feeling good this morning, so we went to the doctor. He told us to go to the hospital right away to get him checked out. So, he has to stay the night while they're doing tests on him"
"What does the doctor think he have?" I asked.
"He might have a tumor in his longs"
"He has cancer?!" I screamed.
"No, baby, he doesn't. I mean, we hope he doesn't. It's not sure yet. They're just doing a few tests" she tried to keep calm, but me and Lucas were already crying hysterically.
"He can't die, mommy" I cried.
"Oh, sweetie, he's not gonna die. He's gonna be okay. We're gonna pray and hope that the doctor was wrong, okay? We're not sure of anything yet"
Lucas sat down on my lap, like he always did for comfort, and I hugged him tightly, while I cried. Mom sat down next to us, as I snuggled into her.
The next day we found out that it was just a virus and that the doctor was wrong.
That was one of the happiest days of my life.We were in the same position now all snuggled up. Only it wasn't mom and Lucas. It was Demi and Corey.
"Mommy, can Amelia be my sister, please?" Corey asked.
"I don't think so, baby" she replied, her arm still around me.
"Why not?"
"Cause she's going to be with another family"
"Why?"
"Cause were not registered as a foster family, and they are"
"What's a foster family?"
"I'll explain it another time, okay? Now, we have to say goodbye to Amelia, cause she's gonna leave soon"
This made me cry even harder and Corey started crying, too.
"I don't want her to leave" he cried.
I don't wanna leave, either.
I wanted to say it, but crying in front of Demi was enough for me. I wasn't ready to talk in front of her, yet.
