A/N: confessions au, teen au
It's been three months. Three months and he still couldn't get over it.
He loved her. He loved her and she left him.
Lin got his driver's license a month ago. Driving gave him this new type of freedom, he could do whatever he wanted.
Well, almost anything.
They'd always talked about it, excited for when he'd be able to drive up to her house, pick her up for dates, surprise her with flowers- well that last one was more an idea he kept in his mind because: surprises.
Nowadays he found himself going on drives a lot; not for any particular purpose other than to clear his head. Today, he ended up driving through the suburbs.
He drove past her house. Past Vanessa's house. He gazed longingly at the front door and doorstep as he drove by.
He felt a lump build up in his throat and swallowed hard, wincing as he did so.
A tear rolled down his cheek. Nevertheless, he took a deep, shaky breath and looked back at the road ahead.
He pulled up into a Target parking lot and turned off the engine. He walked in and got an icee and doritos. When he came out, he sat on the hood of his car, opening the bag of chips and pulled out his phone.
He scrolled through instagram mindlessly, passing by selfies, pictures of the beach, clothes.....
Somehow he ended up searching V's..... Vanessa's username- again.
When her profile loaded, his heart stopped.
She was already with someone new. Sure it'd been three months but in Lin's current rationale, that wasn't nearly enough time to get over someone. A part of him always thought they were just on a break. That they'd get back together and he'd never be lonely again.
He almost considered texting her- no, that would be dumb. He set the phone down before his head fell in his hands.
He couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Why wasn't he ever good enough? A hand slid into his hair and he tugged hard.
"Fucking loser," he told himself. In anger, he slammed a fist into the hood of the car. Of course, it didn't make a dent but it did hurt like all hell. Even after crying in pain, he did it a second time- and a third.
After that, he laid down across the front of the car and whimpered, tears flooding onto the hood.
"Why?" he yelled. "Why?!" He folded his arms under his head, sobbing into his sleeve. After a couple of minutes, he remembered the icee he bought and took a sip.
Blue Raspberry. It was amazing. He didn't deserve amazing.
He threw it on the ground. It splattered everywhere, bright blue ice melting into the concrete.
"Wait, fuck why did I do that?!" he cried. He buried his face in his arms again, shaking from stress.
His mind blanked for a moment and he got what was probably the smartest idea he'd had all night.
He picked up his phone and dialed. He answered on the first ring.
"Lin? Why didn't you just facetime?" the groggy voice of his best friend answered.
"Sorry, I don't have wifi," he sniffled, sitting up to lean against the windshield.
"What? Are you not at your house? it's 11 at night! Are you okay?"
"Well- yes I'm technically okay but also I'm," his voice broke as the tears came rolling in again, moving up an octave, "but also I'm not."
Silence. But only for a second. Groff sighed.
