Of all things, Jon certainly wasn't expecting Lin to pull a ring from his pocket.

And of course, before Lin could properly explain:

"You're proposing already? Lin, we're 17 and you haven't even asked me to dinner yet!" he teased, playfully, offering a flirtatious(?) grin.

Lin back straightened, words caught in his throat, buffered in a nervous stutter. Was it getting hot in here?

"I.... I uhm- well you see, I...."

Jon doubled over in laughter, grasping Lin's bicep to hold him up. Lin inhaled softly at the caress and his heart rate had definitely gone up.

"Lin, I was kidding, relax!" Lin sighed in relief because thank god Jon wasn't on to him. "Seriously though, what's that for?"

Lin sighed again, feeling streaks of confidence seep back into his body.

"It's uh...." he cleared his throat, "they're uhm, friendship rings. Y'know.... best friends forever?"

Okay so now Lin was having second thoughts. Was this weird? Was he being too obvious? He'd hoped if he said the word friend enough times, he wouldn't be.

The thing is? If Jon though Lin was sweet before, he'd had no idea how right he was. The gesture on its own, combined with his obvious nerves. The glint in his sye showing insecurity like- like he was afraid of being judged?

And god, he was so cute but sometimes Jon just wanted to scoop the guy into hid arms and tell him just how much he loved him. How, no matter what, he didn't need to be afraid- not around him.

"I love it," he said, smiling wide. Lin took a moment to stare at that smile. Just a moment but he met Jon's eyes when it was over. "So about that dinner...."

And uh- that hand was on his arm again and he forgot how to breathe.

"I tho-ought you were kidding," ugh. Voice cracks? Really?

"I was. I think," he stepped a bit closer, "I think I'd rather ask you to dinner."

"Oh," and yep it was for sure hotter in here, somebody turned the damn heater up. Yeah. "Yeah, okay," his lips twitched up nervously.

"Jon smiled somehow wider and whispered, "Did you know you have a pretty blush?"

Lin didn't know how to respond to that so he changed the subject, grabbing his hand, locking their fingers together.

"So does that mean we're not best friends anymore?" he asked. He was honestly just curious, no feelings hurt. Hell, he didn't know how this shit worked.

"Sure we are. Who says best friends can't date?"
