A/N: confessions au, teen au
Lin was walking to school when he looked down at his watch. Shit. By the time he got there, he'd be 20 minutes late. He secured the straps of his bag over his shoulders and ran the rest of the way.
He got to the door, panting. Only ten minutes late- that was better than 20. He tried sneaking in, failing when the door squeaked.
"Lin, you're late," Mrs. Soo pointed out.
"I know, I know I'm sorry I lost track of time," he panted. Seeing his current state of exhaustion, she took pity on him, smiling softly.
"It's okay, be sure it doesn't happen next time." Lin smiled back, looking around for his best friend.
Looking to the left, he could've sworn someone was staring at him but by the time he turned his head to see, they'd turned away.
When he spotted Chris, who was trying his best not to burst into laughter, his eyes crinkled at the corners as he tried to suppress his own. "Go ahead and find a seat." He looked away from Chris, a smile lingering on his lips and looked for a place to sit.
All the desks by his best friend were taken. The only one left was on the other side of the classroom.
It was next to the same kid he'd caught staring.
Was there a new kid? He could only see the back of his head but he would've remembered a guy with gorgeous curly hair like that. Hell, he would've hit on him by now.
Had to be a new kid.
He walked up and sat next to him.
"Alright class, as I said before," she pointedly glared at Lin, while he grinned sheepishly, covering his face with his hands, "you'll be doing this project with your new desk partner. So everyone choose a topic from the board and get to work."
Lin turned to him and- wow okay he was fucked.
Okay but he had to say something- he always had something to say- what do you say?
"Hi, you must be new, I'm Lin," he stuck out a hand, words flooding out of his mouth without a buffer. And then maybe he went braindead. Maybe his heart stopped. Or maybe he didn't know eyes could be that clear- hadn't seen it before now.
The kid had his hands in his lap when he looked up. He looked down at Lin's hand and into his dark eyes- woah. His pupils dilated a bit, leaving a thin ring of sapphire.
"Jon...." he mumbled, looking back down. Lin lowered his hand, smile fading a bit. Maybe he was just shy?
"Do you not like handshakes?" he asked tentatively.
"Not really," Jon shrugged, giving him a side glance.
"Okay, that's fine," he smiled wide. Jon looked up when he did, offering a small smile of his own in return. He seems sweet, Lin thought. "So any topic in particular you wanna do?"
Jon looked up at the board and back at Lin. It was hard to look into his eyes without blushing. He looked back down.
"You can choose...."
".... okay." Lin scanned the board and suddenly grew giddy, "Can we do our project on the American Revolution?" he asked, hoping his excitement was somewhat contained. It wasn't but Jon didn't mind. That little twinkle he saw in those brown eyes gave him a genuine toothy smile.
And there was nothing he could do about it. He could already see Lin's happiness was contagious.
"Yeah," he murmured, growing giddy himself, "I think that's fine." He was always a bit self conscious about his shyness- people were judgy it wasn't his fault- but Lin didn't seem to mind.
