A/N: so this is a ftm groff au
Lin was interesting. Intriguing, Jon was fascinated. He wasn't like most straight guys; he was affectionate, handsy, and he immediately felt comfortable around him.
He was intense, but earnest and honest. His eyes, dark as they were, shone like lightbulbs, full of ideas and positivity. It was why, when offered to share a room with him, he said yes, no hesitation. But he knew he had to be careful.
Just because he wasn't homophobic, didn't mean he wasn't transphobic. He wasn't sure he'd understand- maybe he would, he supposed he should have some faith, but he couldn't be sure.
He made sure to turn around whenever he changed in front of him, something that, while Lin fully respected, would grow curious of. He figured he was shy, perhaps insecure. Though insecure of what, he didn't know- the man was built, that's for sure.
It all came to a point, one day when Lin came into their dressing room late, having stage-doored a few extra minutes. Jon wasn't being careful, and Lin walked in on him. As soon as he saw him, Jon quickly pulled the shirt over his body, but Lin had already seen the two scars on his chest.
Jon could see the curiosity in his eyes and took a sigh of relief when Lin ducked his head, choosing not to say anything. They both got dressed in silence.
The next day it was pouring rain, meaning Groff would bike in his rain jacket, hood over his curls to keep them dry. When he got to the theater he found Lin sitting in their dressing room, beanie over his head. Jon paused for a moment at the door, a little nervous of what he was about to do. But Lin would understand. Right? He'd have to.
"Morning," he started, sitting down next to Lin. Lin turned to him, a soft grin on his face.
"Hey." Jon just looked at him for a moment. He looked so open and warm, and he couldn't imagine him being anything but.
"So..." he licked his lips, nervously, "about yesterday..." Lin put a hand up.
"You don't have to tell me," he interrupted. "I don't wanna pressure you and it's none of my business," he paused for a moment, "but of course, if you wanna talk, I'm always here to listen, Groffsauce." He brought a hand to Jon's back, rubbing circles with his thumb.
Jon took a moment to search his face (he was hopeful that maybe this would be okay, that they would be okay). "I do," he began, and Lin squeezed his shoulder encouragingly. "I mean, I guess I should just get to the point," he licked his lips again, "I'm transgender."
Lin tilted his head slightly, and Jon actually didn't see any hatred in his eyes (he wasn't used to getting good reactions) but they did reveal a hint of curiosity. "Oh, okay," he smiled warmly. "Thank you for telling me," he brought the hand around to the back of his neck. "Now," he looked down, likely rearranging his thoughts.
"Yeah?"
Lin looked back up, "Just to uhm, clarify, were you born a male and identify as a woman or do you identify as a man and have already transitioned? Just so I don't get it wrong."
And Jon laughed, he laughed so happily, because of course Lin would ask that. "I'm a guy, I already transitioned."
"Okay okay, cool," and he brought Jon in for an endearing hug, hand tangled in his hair. "Just know you can always trust me with these things."
"I know that now," he said softly, rubbing his back. "And if you have any questions, feel free to ask," he pulled back to give Lin a sweet kiss on the forehead.

"Okay I have some questions," Lin said immediately after rushing into their dressing room the next day, phone in hand. Jon lifted an eyebrow, smirking a bit.
He gestured for him to sit down, "Ask away," he said, chuckling lightly.
"Alright," he sat down across from him (who was lounging on the couch, legs crossed) in a chair, perched on the edge, hands folded in his lap. "So first thing, what are your pronouns, so I know?"
"He/him."
"Okay," he continued asking questions, mainly about dysphoria and how often he got it (which wasn't as often as it used to be, he'd answered) or who he was out to (being Leah and of course his family). When Lin was satisfied, he joined him on the couch, nuzzling into his neck.
"Thank you."
Jon leaned back, looking at him curiously. "For what?"
"For being you," and he leaned down to lay a kiss at the base of his neck.
Jon's eyes widened a bit, "Lin?"
Lin lifted his head, gaping only slightly. "oh god... I didn't mean I- wasn't thinking..."
"Hey," he placed a hand on his shoulder, "it's okay, breathe," Lin sighed slightly, lips twitching up nervously.
Decisive, Jon leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.
"I love you."
