Protecting Mr. Wimp
Chapter 21
She stood outside the door, nervous. She was meeting her sister after months and she knew how her sister could be when she didn't visit her, and now she had to face her. Who knew someone could be nervous to meet their own sister? Apparently Gina was.
She took a deep breath in, one hand clutching the strap of her backpack while the other gripping the door knob. She put on a determined look and then opened the door and stepped inside.
As soon as her eyes landed on the fragile figure of her sister lying on the bed, pale-faced and eyes closed, her eyes welled-up with tears. She didn't know her sister's health had gone from bad to worse, she didn't know she had become this weak, she was so caught-up in her own problems that she didn't even took her sister into consideration, she felt like she was the most awful person to walk on this planet. What kind of person doesn't look after the only family they have left?
Trying to keep in a sob, she walked closer to her sister's bed, making sure not to make a sound. She sat on the chair beside the bed and bent down to place her bag beside her feet. Turning back to look at her sister she realized that her face didn't had that warm glow it once had before, there were bags under her eyes and her face had lost all color. Seeing her sister like that, tore her heart, she hadn't realized that her sister was suffering through so much.
Another sob threatened to escape from her lips, but Gina managed to hold it in. She wanted to hold her sister, tell her that everything will be alright, tell her that she didn't spent a day without thinking about her, but she also didn't want to disturb her sleep, since her sister needed her rest. So she just stared at her, many thoughts running through her head, but all in all, the room was eerily silent. Only the beeping of the heart monitor was heard.
She wasn't sure how long she would have to work, but she had 70,000, there was only a 30,000 more to go, then she was sure she could leave her job.
She sighed and leaned back in her chair, the Travis's had become like a family to her, a family that she always wished she had. She wasn't sure she could leave Michael like that, he was still as wimpy as ever, he can't even kill a roach by himself. He's always calling her most of the time, which is also why she left in the middle of the night, but her leaving would only mean trouble for Michael. She couldn't leave until Michael was safe from all threats, that was Mr. Travis's deal. But even though nothing was actually going to happen to Michael, he always managed to find something to call her for.
That thought made a smile slip onto her face, Michael had become a close friend to her, without her even realizing. After what happened to her parents, she wasn't sure if she would be able to trust anyone, but look at what life lead her to, a great job, great friends... a great family.
She almost let out a sob when that crossed her mind, she was getting over-whelmed by all these emotions but she didn't want her sister to wake up, her sister was a light sleeper. Gina abruptly got up from her seat and started to move towards the door, she needed to get out of that room, but before she could get there, a weak voice said, "You're leaving already?"
Gina's eyes widened and she turned around, her voice barely above a whisper as she said, "Abby..."
Abby let out a weak grin, "Hey, Gina."
Gina gave her a watery smile as she walked back to the chair, sitting on it, she took Abby's hand in hers, "It's good to see you again, Abby."
"What? No hug?"
Gina laughed slightly and reached out to hug her, "I missed you baby sis."
"I missed you too, Gina." Abby let out a sob.
