Remus truly hated himself. He hated himself for hurting Evangeline, for being a git and saying he didn't feel the same when he so desperately did, and for letting her walk away.
The past week had been absolute hell for him. Every chance she got, Evangeline would look over to him and it took every fibre of his being to not look back. He knew she was waiting for him to change his mind, but he dug his grave and was now laying in it.
It was just before dinner, a week after he messed up, and he was sat at the end of the table, sulking and sipping of glass of fire whiskey.
Sirius was sat next to him like usual, but he was chatting Lillian's ear off, trying to convince her to go out with him.
"Come on, just one date, it'll be worth your time," Sirius pleaded, grinning widely.
"Even if I said yes, which I'm not, there's no where you can take me considering you're a wanted mass murderer," Lillian retorted, eyeing Sirius with an amused look on her face.
"Accused mass murderer, I'm innocent," he corrected with a huff.
The pair reminded Remus of Lily and James, only without Lily calling him an arrogant toerag.
Remus was about to continue his sulking when the dining room door swung open and in walked Evangeline and Bill.
She, per usual, looked stunning. She was wearing a tight dress with a low neckline and straps, the skirt flowing out in ruffles by her knees. It was patterned with poppys, little blue flowers, and various green plants. It was mid November, and the dress didn't exactly match the cold, rainy weather outside, but Evangeline never seemed to care.
So caught up in gazing at her, he almost didn't notice Bill's hand resting on her lower back, a bright grin on the man's face.
Almost.
But he did notice it and the sight made his blood boil.
"Moony, you don't get to be upset. You're the one who told her you didn't feel the same, remember?" Sirius warned, not meeting his eyes.
"Shut it, Pads," he grumbled, but knew he was right.
Remus slouched back in his chair, tapping the edge of his glass annoyedly as he watched Molly notice the pair.
"Oh Merlin, finally!" Molly cheered, hurrying over to her son and Evangeline, pulling them both into bone crushing hugs.
Arthur came over, clapping Bill on the back, "about time you got her back."
"How you managed to get her back is astounding," Tonks snorted, eyes wide as she took the pair in, looking to a shocked Lillian.
"Oh shove off," Bill rubbed the back of his neck shyly, gazing down at the blushing brunette, pulling her closer.
When she wrapped her arm around his waist and smiled up at him, Remus decided he'd had enough.
Standing abruptly, he slammed his glass on the wooden table and stormed out, shoving past Bill.
Was he acting childishly? Yes. But he couldn't stand watching the love of his life with someone else and it was all his fault.
