Over the next few days, Jax had basically ignored me so I basically came to the conclusion that the kiss was a mistake. It hurt, I will say that, but I wasn't going to get hung up on one guy.
I worked in the clubhouse pretty much every night and never saw Jax. It was slow so I didn't make many tips. It didn't matter much. I had gone over Donna and Opie's to talk to Donna since I was a little upset over the kiss and it meaning nothing.
"Hey Hadley!" She smiled.
"Hey Donna." I said, smiling. "Can I talk to you?"
Immediately, she nodded and let me in. The kids were in school and she was off today so it was just the two of us. "What's up?"
"The day of fun town, Jax and I kissed." She squealed in excitement.
"That's great!"
"It's not. He's avoided me since then. It meant nothing." I said sadly.
"It didn't mean nothing, I promise you that. Jax is out of town with the club. They went to Nevada. Should be here any minute." She said excitedly. I nodded and that's when I got it. He wasn't avoiding me, he just wasn't in town.
"Oh, well I'm glad it didn't mean nothing." I was relieved, but nervous.
"Jax is trying to figure things out right now, but I know there's something between you two!" Donna giggled.
"I want there to be something but every guy has hurt me and I'm not sure I want to put myself through this heart ache again." I said when the door opened and Opie and Jax stepped inside.
"Hadley! Hey! What are you doing here?" Opie smiled and I just gave him a smile.
"Oh, uh, just having a chat with Donna of course." Opie and Jax looked at each other suspiciously.
"Of course you and Donna are talking, what about?" Opie chuckled.
"We're talking about something confidential." I joked, "Nah just kidding. None ya business." I winked.
"Donna, I'll talk to you later." I got up and began to walk away but Jax caught up to me once I got outside.
"I'm just here to get some baby furniture. You can stay if you want." I smiled up at him.
"Can I ask you something first?" He nodded wearily.
"Did that kiss mean anything? You have a lot going on and I don't want to add to it but I need to know. I don't really want to get hurt again." I was open and honest with him, hoping he would be the same.
"It meant something to me Hadley. I just need to make sure things are over with Tara." I took in every word. He still had something going on with someone else. I nodded, but looked down. He grabbed my chin and tilted it up to look at him.
"I promise, once things are completely over with Tara, I'm all yours." I nodded but I wasn't holding my breath. "Come back in?"
"Sure." We went back into the house and out into the back yard. It didn't take long for Jax and Opie's shirts to come off. I had to admit, my eyes lingered a little too long on Jax.
Donna smirked at me and I turned red. Jax and Opie hadn't even noticed, so that was good. They pulled stuff out of the shed and Jax knocked some stuff over trying to get the playpen out. "Sorry!" He laughed.
"How much?" Jax asked and Opie responded with, "Don't worry it's a gift."
Jax pulled out his wallet and handed Donna some money. At first, she didn't want to take it, but Jax convinced her. I smiled at him and helped Donna pick up the things that got knocked over.
"See you later at the taste of Charming." Jax said.
"The fundraiser?" Donna asked.
"Yeah, I'm doing the fireworks." Donna looked weary but Opie reassured her, "It's not a club thing Donna."
"My mom started it years ago, it's to raise money for schools and stuff." Jax said. Jax got all of his baby furniture loaded before saying bye to Opie and Donna. Jax left and then I went home to change into something that would breathe since I'd be hanging out with Donna during the event.
Since it was nice out, I switched to a pair of red ripped shorts, fishnet tights, and an Asking Alexandria crop top. I wore a pair of doc martens and then grabbed my leather jacket before getting onto my bike and heading to the fundraiser.
When I got there, I saw Opie with Donna and the kids, Jax was talking to them. I went to walk over to them but someone grabbed my arm, I turned to see my old boss. He seemed pretty angry to see me here. Could be that I cut off his dick.
"Get your hands off of me." I sneered.
"No, bitch you're going to pay for what you did to me." He was beginning to raise his voice when others began to look at us. His voice lowered but that didn't stop him from degrading me. "You stupid, slutty, whorish, cunt! You're going to pay for chopping me!"
"No I won't, because you deserved everything coming to you." I snarled and tried to rip my arm from his grasp. I couldn't believe he wanted to do this in the open. I looked over and saw that Jax and Opie had gone into the fundraiser with Donna and the kids. It was probably a good thing that Donna and the kids were gone.
He gripped my arms harder and started yanking me off around the corner where there was no one to see a thing. I tried harder to squirm and break free but when I couldn't, the only thing that I could think of was to scream for help. I screeched bloody murder and he tried to cover my mouth.
"Jax! Ope!" My voice came out muffled. I saw more bikes in the distance and tried screaming as loud as I could. His hands wrapped around my throat as he shoved me up against a fence. He saw someone coming and bolted. I felt the air circulate back into my lungs and I gasped for breath as I hit the ground. A woman knelt down and checked me over as I coughed.
"Hi, my name is Tara, are you alright?" I looked up at her and nodded. She then continued to ask me questions. "What's your name?"
"Hadley." I sputtered.
"I'm a surgeon at St. Thomas. What do you do?" She questioned.
"Bartender." She nodded and helped me up. "Look I'd appreciate if you didn't say anything to anyone."
Tara nodded but seemed confused. I didn't tell her why but I went back to my bike and got on, leaving quicker than when I had shown up. When I got home, I locked the door and used the deadbolt for the first time in a while. I couldn't believe that I let him get the drop on me. I heard my phone ring and I looked at the caller ID. Jax. I ignored his call, but of course when I ignored Jax, Donna called. I answered Donna's call.
"Hey Donna." I tried to sound happy but I couldn't pull it off.
"Hadley, are you okay? I thought you were coming to the fundraiser?" The worry I heard in her tone made me feel bad that I left.
"Plans changed Donna. I can't make it, I'm sorry." I felt myself choking with tears when I heard Donna tell someone I wasn't coming.
"It's okay, are you still going into work tonight?" Donna questioned.
"I don't think so. I, uh, got sick." I tried to lie but I knew she seen right through it. She didn't push it though which I was grateful for.
"I'll see you tomorrow Hadley." She said and I hung up before sobbing to myself on the couch.
