“Fiona?” I heard my name and let out a low groan before plastering a fake smile and turning to look at the person who called my name but my fake smile quickly turned into a real one when I saw who it was.
“Hey Dylan.” I greeted him as he walked towards me.
“Happy New Year.” He said when he finally reached where I was standing.
“Happy New Year Dylan. How was the rest of your trip?”
“We had to cut it short when the snow started but it was fun.” He responded with a small smile.
“The snow came as a surprise to everyone but unfortunately it was short-lived.”
“Tell me about it. Ray was pissed about the fact that we had to come back just for it to stop.”
“Seems like he loves the beach a little too much. How’s he by the way?” I asked before shoving my books into my locker and closing it.
“He l loves it, says he’s going to live in a beach house with his family.”
“Sounds fun.” I told him with a small laugh before standing upright.
“I’m going to meet the guys in the cafeteria for lunch, you want to come with me?” I asked him and he nodded making us turn to walk towards the cafeteria.
“You know I couldn’t help but notice you had a fake smile on your face when I called your name. Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine. It's just that people I’ve never spoken to in my life have been saying hi all day and I’m sick of it.” I said to him with a frown.
“I’m guessing that’s a bad thing?”
“For me it is because I hate attention and I know the only reason most of them are doing this is because of the pictures Rosa posted during the Christmas break. It’s all obviously fake and I hate it.”
He let out a laugh as we walked into the cafeteria making me give him a confused look but that was the least of my problems because I suddenly felt eyes on me.
“Great! Now the whole cafeteria is looking me.” I told him before putting my head down.
“Ignore them.”
“Easy for you to say, you’re probably used to people staring at you which reminds me,” I paused to look at him, “where are your sunglasses?”
“In my bag, I didn’t want you asking me the question of why I was wearing it again.” He responded with a smile.
“Why did you wear it?” I asked him before picking a tray and getting lunch while he did the same.
“I was hiding from you.” He answered making my eyes snap to look at him.
“Why?”
“I was scared you’d recognise me.”
“I thought recognising you was the plan all along?” I asked him again before moving away from the line and waiting for him.
“It was but I wasn’t sure how you would have reacted if you saw me.” He answered before joining me as we walked towards the table where everyone was.
“It would have been nice to know earlier that I didn’t have a stalker.” I teased.
“I guess I did kind of stalk you.” He said with a nervous laugh.
“You’re lucky I didn’t call the cops.” I smiled at him before turning to look at the table but I quickly frowned when I noticed an absence.
