“Wake up you lazy rascal! We’re going to be late for school!”
“Get out of my room! It’s still too early for me to be awake!”
“Fiona I’m serious. It’s seven thirty already and school starts by eight.”
My eyes snapped opened immediately.
“What the—I set my alarm for six.” I said as I grabbed my phone.
“It’s dead.” She dead-panned.
“I could swear I plugged it into the charger last night.” I told her.
“Well you didn’t now get up and get dressed. It’s the first day of school and we’re already late.” She said rolling her eyes as I threw the covers away.
“You could always make it if you leave now.” I told her as I ran to the bathroom.
“I’m not leaving you so be quick.”
I gave her a small smile as I brushed my teeth the fastest way I could.“I can’t believe we’re in the last year of High school.” She gushed and I could hear the smile in her voice.
“Well I can. I absolutely cannot wait to leave that hell hole.” I told her.
“Come on Fiona. You know the school isn’t that bad.”
“Well I don’t care about the school or the people in it,” I paused, “except you of course so it really makes no difference.”
I rinsed my mouth and walked out of my bathroom to grab my favorite hoodie and jeans.
“Come on! You can’t possibly be thinking of wearing those!” She complained.
“I’m not thinking of wearing it.” I told her.
“Great.” She smiled at me.
“Because I’m already wearing it.” I said with a victorious smile when her smile fell off her face.
“Fiona! It’s the last year of high school! Live a little. I don’t see why you keep hiding your beautiful body from the whole world.” She complained.
“Em, you’re my best friend in the whole world but if I have to hear those words again I might actually puke on you.” I told her as she gave me a disapproving look.
“But you know I’m saying the truth.” She said with a frown.
“One more year. Then I can wear all the beautiful clothes you always give me for Christmas and my birthday. I promise.” I said with a smile and she gave me a long stare before she finally smiled back.
I grabbed my extra large glasses and balanced it on my face.
“I don’t see why you still wear those hideous things either when you can just use contacts.
“You and I know I don’t have the patience for those things. Plus I like my glasses better.”
“You could always get a smaller frame.”
“No thank you.”
“Ugh! You’re impossible.” She scoffed.
“I know, now can we go already? We’re already extremely late and I have Algebra for first period.” I smiled at her as I grabbed my bag.
“I luckily have English and Mrs Smith is a total darling.”
“Lucky you.”
“Your parents are out early.” She said as we moved out of my room.
