36 - Orange

I think I'm starting to see it all connect
The strings, the webs, whatever I call it
A network built of few, borne of chance
A world that spins anew, a brand new dance

When the record is set to spin anew
When the world, it hums a different tune
When our hearts all beat as one
Then our journey has just begun

Taehyung sits there, eyes closed, daydreaming. Ever since his discussion with Jin, he's been distracted from his book, too busy trying to think about what everything means. Why he's an orange, and not a blonde, or a green, or an indigo like Yoongi. Why decisions are made as they are. Why the universe works in the ways it does.

There's got to be a reason for it. There's got to be some connection that's not quite clicking, something that functions in a sensible way, that could possibly explain what's going on with his little group of friends. The group that has become more like family.

The room is almost completely silent, as it has been since Jin left for his work shift at his second job. Eventually, however, Taehyung opens his eyes, yawns a little, and looks down at the diagram he drew earlier to explain his thoughts on why different people are so different. The links still aren't making sense, even now.

There's a moment of silence, as the orange glances around the room, and then, without warning, an odd electric energy seems to pass through him, up the spine and across the shoulders into the arms. That jolt passes into his wrists, the hands, the fingers, which twitch slightly. He blinks once, twice, and then stands up, pushing the chair out from behind him almost too fast, so that he can grab his laptop and charger.

He plugs both in properly, sets himself up, and opens the lid to an empty chapter document. His eyes blur for a heartbeat, and then his hands stretch forward of their own accord and begin to type. The words appear on the screen too fast to read, too small to make out even as he's trying to catch up with himself. In his barely-awake state, nothing seems to click. At some point, he minimises the document to put on some background music, and then he goes right back to his writing.

When he finally pauses, his bladder is aching, and his wrists are slightly painful, as if the muscles are exhausted. He blinks a few times, leaning back, and catches sight of violet hair, a concerned face just beyond his vision.

"You're back early," he manages, the words catching in the back of his throat and causing him to cough slightly into his hand. Jin just raises an eyebrow, and shakes his head.
"You're up late," the purple returns quietly. Taehyung frowns in confusion, looking around at the kitchen and noticing for the first time that it's oddly silent.

"Where did the music go?" he questions, and his brother frowns, leaning forward to look closer at the younger male.
"Our WiFi was cut off half an hour ago, Tae. Didn't you notice?" Taehyung shrugs.
"I guess not. Was I supposed to?"

"I mean...it completely changed the atmosphere of the entire place, but sure." Jin's gaze looks over the orange again, genuinely concerned. "Are you okay, Tae?"

Taehyung nods quickly, the movement making him all too aware of the amount of time that his neck's been in the same position for. He winces a little, raising a hand to rub at the knotted muscle. "I'm fine. What time is it?"
"It's almost 2am," Jin explains quietly, and the younger male's eyes widen in surprise.

"How long have I been writing for?" he questions, looking around the kitchen again and noticing the closed curtains, the lack of light coming from the windows. The time, on the very edge of his laptop screen, staring out at him.
"I don't know. I got home an hour ago, and you've been like this the whole time. You didn't even notice when I arrived, which worried me, and I found you here just typing without seeming to see or know what you were doing. I've never seen you like this, Tae, and it scared me."
