23 - Yellow

I am yellow, and yet I still don't know
I'm yellow, and yet I have no idea where to go
The sun sets sometimes
and hides away the guidelines

Yellow isn't always there
and sometimes life doesn't care
that yellow needs a moment to be itself, without others
that yellow doesn't want to rely on family or on lovers

"Sunshine, are you okay?"

Hoseok sits up, rubbing at his eyes and squinting blearily at his best friend, who's watching him with a concerned expression on her face. "Huh?" His eyes then widen in surprise when he sees the sunlight streaming through the windows. "Oh shit, what's the time?" he asks hurriedly, standing up too fast and wincing at the way the blood rushes to his head, which is throbbing faintly.

He rubs at his forehead, lost in the headache for a moment before he jolts right back into action, searching desperately around the office for his phone. "Dammit, where the fuck did I put my phone, what the fuck is going on, Lis please tell me the fucking time, I can't find-"

Lisa sets a hand on his shoulder, takes a deep breath, something he copies quickly to calm the panic. She's trying to smile, comfortingly, but he can see the worry in her eyes clearer than she'd like. It's been a long time since he's fallen asleep at his desk. So this isn't exactly a good sign.

"Sunshine, it's only about 8am. You're okay. You didn't sleep in. Though I'm guessing you fell asleep at your desk again?"
"Aqua, I don't know what's going on yet. Gimme a second, and I can answer all your questions. My head is killing me." Lisa tilts her head at him. "No, I don't keep alcohol in here. That's against the law."

She just sighs. "Like that's gonna stop you, if you're stressed." The yellow shrugs, smiling a little.
"Have a little faith, Lis. I'm not a total idiot, okay?"

His best friend pauses for a moment, raising a teasing eyebrow at him, and he pouts at her, until she laughs and apologised. "Alright, alright, I trust you," she says eventually, holding up a hand. "But that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to get worried about you. You're my best friend. It's my job to care too much."

Hoseok nods in understanding, running a hand through his messy blonde hair and grabbing the mouse of his computer, moving it around for a few seconds in an attempt to wake up the screen. When this doesn't work, he sighs and leans forward, pressing the 'on' switch impatiently and watching it begin to start back up again.

"So what kept you here this time, Sunshine?" Lisa asks worriedly. Hoseok shrugs, rubbing at his eyes as they both watch the computer boot back up. It's taking its time, much like Hoseok's brain, which is a pain, but it is what it is.

"I honestly can't remember. It was probably really important, but I have no idea," he admits, stretching out his arms in front of him, fingers interlaced and back arched. The action causes him to yawn, water springing into his eyes unbidden due to sheer sleep deprivation. His jaw clicks unpleasantly, and Lisa makes a sound of disgust.
"Ew, dude."
"Sorry."

The computer pings, and both of them turn to look at it for a second, Hoseok jumping a little at the unexpected noise. Then he chuckles lightly at himself, opening up his emails and checking quickly to see what he's missed. And there's only one new notification: from Namjoon.

He frowns in confusion, clicking around on the screen for a moment and opening the email, scanning the message within for a few seconds before sighing. "Yoongi had an episode," he reports quietly, carefully. Lisa frowns, concerned.
"Is he alright?"

"Joon seems to think so, but I don't know. Those things can be really bad." Hoseok reads the email again, and his eyes widen in surprise. "They were out at a cafe because they were introducing Taehyung and Jungkook to each other? Damn, okay. That's brave."

Lisa tilts her head, confused, and Hoseok snaps his fingers, realising that he hasn't told her about that yet. "Basically, Tae's application had a character which was essentially a total copy of Kook, and Kook and I got freaked out over it until Yoongi told us that it was all good."
"And you didn't tell me, because..?"
"I forgot," Hoseok admits easily, apologetically. "I was too busy sorting out Taehyung's contracts and having meetings with him, and suddenly everything happened."

Lisa smiles a little, fondly. "You never change, do you?" Hoseok shrugs.
"Never have, probably never will." A pause. "What's your plan today?"
"I was gonna go down to Joon's comic store, see how everything is going down there. Check up on him, on them all. If Yoongi's had an episode, that's an even better reason to head over. I know Joon doesn't always turn up to his work, especially in that situation, but I'm sure Jin will know."

Hoseok nods in understanding. "Good idea. Even if everything is totally fine, they'll appreciate the thought." His best friend just smiles a little, and then she frowns slightly.
"What're you up to today?" Lisa asks, and Hoseok shrugs.
"No idea."
"It'll be on your phone, Sunshine."
"What if it's dead?"

She just gives him a look. "I know you bring a phone charger with you to work. It shouldn't take that long for you to find it, right?"
"Yeah but...that involves movement."
"So does going to Namjoon's shop."
"Yeah but...you slept at your house."
"Well, I had the brains to leave, you silly potato."

They stare at each other for a moment later, and then burst into laughter at the same time. "Silly potato?" Hoseok repeats incredulously.
"Hey, I'm no writer. I just work here, dude. I don't know how to think of my own ideas. You know that," his turquoise-haired bestie responds, shrugging. "I don't know how to make creative insults. I just laugh at the ones that I see."

Hoseok stares at her for one more moment before he nods in agreement, leaning into his bag in an attempt to find his phone charger. "Fair enough," he responds, sounding distracted until he pulls out a long wire and plug. "Aha! Got it."

There's a few moments of silence as he plugs in his phone (which he quickly realises was hiding on his desk) and waits for it to function, like...well, like a phone should. And then there's a faint squeaking sound, and they both freeze, confused. It happens again, and then Hoseok realises.

"Oh, I think that's my stomach-"
"Do you want me to get you some breakfast?" Lisa offers immediately. Hoseok tilts his head at her for a moment. "Sunshine, you know you can't function properly without a morning coffee. It's best if I grab you a snack and a drink whilst you check your schedule. It'll take me ten minutes at most."

"But I gotta pay you-" Hoseok is silenced when she sends him a meaningful look, and he slumps back into his chair, abashed.
"You paid for the last three times we had breakfast, I think I can repay the favour this once and survive," she says briskly, leaving quickly after to sort everything out for him.

When she's gone, Hoseok takes a deep breath, checking to see if his phone is ready to explain the plan to him. For a few seconds, he clicks around aimlessly, and then he finds the info he needs. Only one major commitment today, thankfully. But it still makes the editor frown in confusion.

A meeting with Jungkook...about something?

Maybe the illustrator had a new idea, or just wanted to talk. That's normally the situation when such things happen, but Jungkook doesn't normally request random meetings out of nowhere. He normally just shows up whenever he's asked to, and doesn't make more contact than he needs to. So this is odd, for him.

Maybe he'll explain himself once he gets to the office in two hours' time.

Or maybe not. Time will tell.
