3 - Yellow

yellow people are like secondary suns
casting brightness onto the world, stars,
a warm-hearted desire to spread positivity
to hide the chance of their own negativity and worries,

For yellow is bright but it can signal danger,
Deadly jaundice, the blinding hue of a wasp, stinging at will,
Daffodils that bloom beautiful can kill,

who are we to dictate what they do
who are we to dispel gloom
yellow people falter when left in the dark
but others see them as shooting stars

"Hi, you're speaking to the Sunshine Publishers, how can I help you today?"

Jung Hoseok smiles brightly, the expression familiar to his face, as he listens to his client. His independent publishing business has only existed for a short while, but it's already expanded from just romance novels to comics and mangas as well as poetry (very specific poetry). As the figurehead, he represents the positive attitude to life shown through the majority of the books he publishes.

It's times like these that he realises how useful it is to be a yellow.

"Hey, I was wondering if I could speak to someone who would be able to talk to me about the chance of my books being published?" a nervous, surprisingly deep voice says quietly. Hoseok's smile widens slightly, the thought of a new client making him happy.

"I'm the owner of Sunshine Publishing, so I think I can help you with that," he says brightly, rushing across the room and grabbing a notebook and a pen, smiling at the surprised sound from the phone.
"O-oh right, sorry, I didn't realise-"
"It's fine, don't worry. Most people don't expect me to pick up the phone, they think I have a secretary or something like that. It's kinda funny, to be honest."

The potential writer chuckles nervously, not really knowing what to say. "Okay, can I have a name please?" Hoseok asks politely.
"Kim Taehyung. I'm a eighteen year old wannabe writer from Daegu," the other male replies, still anxious about the situation he's in.

Hoseok scribbles the details down quickly, lifting his pen to bite on the end thoughtfully. "If I give you my email, you can send me some of your work, perhaps?" he suggests calmly. "I don't want to be rude, but I can't publish work I haven't read. Does that make sense?"
"Yeah, I completely get it. What is your email?"

Hoseok reads out his work email address carefully, twice. "Did you get that?"
"Yes, thank you so much for the opportunity, sir, I really hope I can make it worth your time. It means a lot to me."
"You're more than welcome, Taehyung. And don't worry about calling me sir, it makes me feel old. I look forward to reading your work."
"I look forward to your reply and undoubted rejection."

Hoseok sighs, not liking the negative tone in the teenager's voice. "Be positive. You sound like a clever person. That's a good start."
"Sorry, I'm just used to people telling me that my work isn't any good because an orange isn't supposed to have any creative talent."

"Well, whatever colour you are, you're certainly keen enough to reach out and ask to be published. That shows how much your work means to you. Which is important. I'm afraid I have a meeting in about two minutes, and I want to eat a cookie before it starts, so I must go. Thank you for calling, Taehyung."
"Thank you for understanding," the orange haired male returns, politely, and Hoseok hangs up.

There's something different about this applicant, one that the blonde male can't figure out yet. Most potential clients are more confident, that's for sure, but Hoseok has never encountered someone quite like Taehyung. Something tells him that this potential author is going to be important later on.

He just can't figure out why. Yet.

"Lisa, do a background check on Kim Taehyung please," the usually bright individual calls out to his colleague, who nods in assent, flicking her turquoise hair over her shoulder and typing into her laptop. "I would, but I've got a meeting and I wanna grab a cookie first. I reckon I've earned one."
