(Just wanna clarify something: in this book, hair colour is naturally a different colour to what it would be in real life. This applies to all ethnicities and cultures, as it's an alternative universe. I'm not trying to devalue any culture or identity here. Obviously I'm ignorant of certain cultures simply because I haven't learned enough about them yet.

I know natural hair and wigs, if I may call them that, are important parts of black culture, and I'm not trying to take away from that or suggest anything about it. It's not my place to. The character I've created here is not supposed to be a parody of that, and if she seems like that, I am entirely to blame. Please let me know if that is the case. I do plan on researching this stuff, don't worry, because this character is going to appear more often and I don't want to misrepresent an entire culture. I would never want that for any culture from across the world.

She's been given her hair colour based on personality, as with every other character in the book. Hopefully this decision hasn't alienated her, or me, to you. Thanks for reading this long ass note and enjoy the chapter!)

everyone deserves to make friends
no matter who they are
isolation only hurts in the end
and happiness can take you far

but it's hard for some to find someone to befriend
hard to understand what's going on in the mind of someone else
it's not easy to understand the twists and bends
of the journey of another person's life

but reds are impulsive, emotional, their hearts determined
and in this case that's a good thing

"Hi, welcome to Joon's Comics, how can I help you today?"

The girl smiles a little, placing the book on the counter. "Just this, please," she says calmly, reaching into her bag to grab her purse a few seconds later. She's pretty, probably in her late teens, with mahogany skin and short, natural mint hair. Her willowy frame is enviably tall, but there's a clear certainty to her movements that suggests a lack of fragility.

Jimin nods once in understanding, taking the book and scanning it carefully, realising that it's the same book that he was delivering to that poet's house on his first day, maybe four weeks ago now. An odd coincidence, really.

"Min Yoongi? He's a poet, isn't he?" he says conversationally as he flips the book back over and puts it into a small paper bag. The girl's smile widens at the comment, and she nods in confirmation.
"He's my favourite writer at the moment. Pure genius. And have you seen the illustrations? They're insane!"

Jimin tilts his head, having never thought to look at the books in more detail. "No, I haven't," he admits, letting her pass her card over the machine to pay, "can I peek?"
"Of course you can!" she says brightly, watching as he carefully pulls her purchase back out of the bag and opens the book to look at it, his eyes widening at the skill shown. "Damn, that's good!"

He then replaces it gently, handing her the filled bag and checking the till screen to make sure that the transaction is going through properly.

"I know right! I think his illustrator is only like...my age? 17? Which is mad."

"Did you want your receipt for that at all?" he checks quickly, placing his hand over the receipt printer when she nods. It prints a few seconds later, and he folds it in half and hands it to her. "I've not seen you around before, are you new to the area?"

She nods. "Yeah, I moved in with my parents a few weeks ago. I've not even met my all neighbours yet, but I think that's the plan pretty soon, because my family likes to know a lot of people I guess. It's just taken a long time to unpack and settle ourselves down, I suppose."
"Well, I hope they're all nice," Jimin says brightly, moving onto the next customer in the queue and forgetting all about the exchange.
