41 - Violet

(Last chapter, for those who skipped it due to the warnings (which is completely valid), Yoongi and Jin had an emotional conversation about the fact that they were willing/not willing to seek help and keep pushing forward, that people deserve help even if sometimes it's hard to keep track of things and reach out and all that.)

I am purple: but why must I? 

Yoongi turns away, picking up the empty cups of water in front of both of them, and heading for the sink. In the silence that follows that moment, Jin pulls out his phone, scrolling to the last text conversation he had with Junghyun. He begins to try and type out some sort of message, something that could spark a conversation about the next appointment. 

Good afternoon, apologies for- 

That's too formal. 

Hey, it's Jin-

Junghyun already has Jin's number, he would know that. The clarification isn't needed. 

Hi, just wondered- 

Too casual. 

Jin sighs, placing the phone on the counter in front of him. Yoongi glances over, a knowing look gleaming in his eyes for a moment. "Trying to phrase the perfect text?" he guesses, sliding the purple his freshly filled cup of water. Jin just nods. 
"Anything I say just doesn't feel right, and I don't know what to do. I don't want to come across as rude, but I also don't want to seem like I'm being overly careful. I don't get how you and Tae always seem to know what the right word is." 

Yoongi chuckles, shaking his head at his friend. "Well, the short answer is that I don't always know the right word. It takes time, and it takes drafts, but it's important to give it a try in the first place. And that's what you're doing. It's a good start." He tilts his head, his eyes glazing over as he starts considering the issue.

"Any ideas?" Jin pushes the phone closer to the indigo. "You're more used to this than I am." He cringes the moment he realises what he just said, but Yoongi just smiles, nodding in agreement even as the purple begins to apologise. 
"Don't worry, it's the truth. I am more used to this." He pauses, tries to think. "What about 'Hi Junghyun, sorry for not reaching out sooner. I didn't quite catch how often you thought we should have some sort of appointment, and so I wasn't sure when to reach out about the next one. It's been about a month, so I figured it would be better to get into contact and double check what the next steps are, in your opinion. Hope to hear from you soon.'" 

The purple's eyes widen. "You literally always do know what to say," he murmurs in amazement, beginning to type that into his phone. Yoongi shrugs. 
"I discarded about four different options in my head before I said anything. I don't know what I'm doing, not really, but I've gotten better at bullshitting my way through life. That's all I can really do, and I don't know how I haven't been spotted doing it yet." 

Jin finishes typing, and then hits 'send', placing the phone back on the counter again. "Well, whatever you're doing, it seems to be working, because that sounded perfect to me. I don't know how I would react if I were a therapist, but at least it's something. It's a communication." Yoongi smiles a little, nods, takes a sip from his water. 

"It's a starting point. The more you talk and communicate, the more you figure out what kind of language you need to use to make them understand what you want without going against the expectations of the relationship you have with them. It doesn't have to be a close relationship. Could be really distant. It's all about figuring out those boundaries. Until those are set, it's a lot harder to know the technicalities of it all, and a lot scarier," the indigo explains quietly, glancing around at the cats for a moment.
