Love, Lies and Levi (Levi x Reader)

Chapter 30: The Defeated

You held your chest as you tried to steady your breathing, watching as bodies after bodies were being brought out from the forest and were lined up.

"Hey." You felt Ava tap you on the shoulder and nodded towards Mikasa and Levi walking out with Eren in his arms. You both went running to them.

"Is he okay?" You asked him as he handed him to Ava. Mikasa almost yanked Eren away from her, so she could keep an eye on him, but Ava glared at her to trust her.

"He should be fine." Levi said wincing a bit.

"Are you okay?" You looked down to see he was leaning more on one leg.

"Just hurt my leg a bit, but I'll be fine." He looked, out of sorts a bit. You knelt down and helped him out of his boot, and with some bandages you had from when you wrapped Athen's leg you began to tie it tightly around his swollen ankle.

"How did you do this?" You asked, tying the last knot.

"I'll tell you later, but right now I need your help with something."

"Sure anything." You looked up to him, but your face softened seeing his face, he avoided all eye contact with you.

As you stood up, you finally clued in what might have happened, you began to look around, then behind him and saw three whole bodies being dragged out, and one split in half.

"Help me cut their emblems." You gulped trying to hold back your tears and just nodded as you watched them get put down next to all of the other bodies. He handed you a small knife and you walked closer to their covered bodies.

You walked to the first one and lifted the sheets not wanting to see their faces completely and you began to cut the wings off of their chest.

You moved to the next, accidently pulling up a little too much and you closed your eyes right away and choked up a bit. You opened your eyes to see Petra's face and you moved your hand over her eyes and closed them for her. You began to cut the emblem, tears now falling on her uniform.

What were you going to tell her father, her poor father who entrusted you and Levi with her.

You felt a hand touch your shoulder and you stood as Levi handed you an emblem. "It's Eld's." And you took it. "You were closer with him and his family." He put a hand to your cheek and brushed the tears that fell from your eyes.

As everyone lifted bodies on some carriages, you went to Erwin as he called for you. "Yes, commander?" Your face, still sad from seeing your old squad was completely wiped out.

"You did good today." He stated, a hand on your shoulder, and you nodded as a thanks to his comment. "I'm sorry about your old squad by the way."

"Thank you." Was all you could say, not knowing how exactly to respond to that.

A man approached you and Erwin. "We're nearly finished, Sir. However a few bodies were unrecoverable." He said.

"Not even pieces of them?" Erwin asked.

You closed your eyes as the man said, "the Titans didn't leave much behind."

"Just put them as "missing". It's probably best we don't bring what's left to the families anyways." You stated to the men who stood in front of you and he wrote it down on his paper.

"Yes, Captain." He said to you and started to walk away.

"We move out at once. Inform the squads." Erwin ordered the rest of the men. You both began to walk away as well and you were held back as someone tugged on your arm.
