The Alpha knocked her to the ground, her cheek scraping against the concrete painfully. Her gun fell from her grasp and slid a couple feet away. The girl struggled under the wolf, but then she felt it's teeth tear into her shoulder, ripping the fabric of her clothes and breaking skin.

She screamed as sharp waves of pain exploded through her shoulder and down her arm, incapacitating her. She used her good arm to crawl forward, desperately trying to get away, but the werewolf grabbed her legs and dragged her backwards. Within seconds, she felt herself being flung in the air, panic rising to her throat. She grunted in pain as her back hit Derek's car.

The Alpha crouched down by the vehicles, taking it's attention away from the girl. Mia saw the front door open. Stiles peeked his head out, then quickly stepped out to grab something on the ground. He froze as his eyes landed on the Alpha and then on Mia. She saw the apology on his face when he made a decision and ducked back inside before the werewolf could get him.

The Alpha growled again, then ran off. She heard him jump on the roof of the building.

She tried to sit up, wincing in pain. Her thoughts were muddled with panic and her shoulder was burning. She took a few deep breaths to center herself so she could figure out a plan to escape.

She could try to run to the school and hide with Scott and Stiles, but the boys had probably barricaded themselves in, and she wasn't strong enough to make it across the parking lot quickly. She was sure the Alpha was lurking around, waiting for her to go there.

Mia glanced at Derek, who was lying in a pile of leaves not far from her. He wasn't moving, but she saw his back rise faintly, which meant he was still breathing. Gathering her strength, she pulled herself up by leaning against his car for support.

A thought popped into her head. Derek's car.

The keys were still inside. She opened the door and was about to get in, when her eyes caught on Derek's body again. She hesitated by the door for a few seconds, yelling at herself to just leave. It would be so easy. Just get in Derek's car and leave.

"Shit," she cursed under her breath, peeling herself away from the vehicle. She did a quick scan of the parking lot, then crawled over to Derek, panting heavily.

Maybe her mother was right. Maybe she was soft.

"Hey," she whispered, bringing her hand up to pat his face gently, "Hey, Derek. Please don't be dead, come on."

She wanted to cry from relief when the man blinked and coughed into the leaves, slowly coming back to consciousness. His eyes were unfocused, but he was alive, and that was good enough for now.

She grabbed onto his leather jacket and tried to lift him up, grunting from exertion. Her one arm wasn't strong enough to drag a full grown man back to the car, but when she tried to use both, the pain was so intense she had to bite down on her lip to prevent herself from screaming.
