Mia returned to the hospital a few days later, ready for another shift. This time, there was another nurse on duty, a strict but friendly woman, who reprimanded her for apologizing too much and let her do her tasks peacefully.

The girl went through the children's ward, giving out all the gifts and messages. Then she returned to the front desk for some file-organizing. They had been piling up since an hour ago.

Mia stopped in her tracks, halfway to the front desk. She recognized Scott and Stiles, who had just walked in. They were looking around, acting painfully suspicious. Mia watched as Stiles pointed at a door and Scott went inside, leaving his friend in the lobby.

She walked up to the door. It led to the morgue. A place where Scott had absolutely no reason to go to.

Before she could change her mind, she left her delivery cart at the desk and followed him inside. As the door closed behind her, she saw Scott lurking next to the door to the morgue. He seemed panicked. He must have realized that he needed to keycard to get in.

"Scott," she hissed at him, speed-walking to the boy. Scott jumped at the sound of his name, meeting her gaze with wide eyes, "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Oh hey. I, uh–" he stuttered, backing away automatically. She could see him sweating, "Nothing. I'm here to, uh– visit my mom. She's a nurse here."

"And you're hoping to find her in the morgue?" Mia raised an eyebrow at him. Scott let out a strange, nervous noise and offered her a hopeless smile. She sighed, "I know your mom, she's my supervisor. She doesn't have any shifts today, but I'm sure that as her son, you already knew that."

Scott's shoulders dropped with desperation, "Okay, that's not why I'm here. I can't really explain, but I really need to get into the morgue."

"Why?"

"I can't–" he huffed in frustration, "I can't tell you! I'm so sorry, I just– I need you to trust me."

"I barely know you, so that's out of the question."

Suddenly, the dots started connecting. She grabbed Scott by his hoodie sleeve and dragged him away.

She led him to the corner of the room, away from the passing people, "Is this about the girl in the woods?"

Scott gaped at her, "How do you know about that?"

"Doesn't matter," she shook her head, "Why are you getting involved?"

For a while, Scott didn't answer. She could see the cogs in his brain turning, contemplating whether he should share his information with her. She wondered if he knew about her family. If he was trying to solve this mystery, he probably wasn't aware that he was putting a target on his back.

Finally, the boy sighed, "I think I know who killed her. I just want to help."

"By what, sniffing out the rest of her body?"
