"Mia, wait!"

Mia pushed through all the men blocking her way and fastened her pace. She didn't care what direction she was heading in. The lights of their cars were getting farther away. She wanted them to. She couldn't look at her grandfather's face.

"Mia!" her dad yelled after her, trying to keep up. "It's okay, please come back!"

"No!" she turned around and stared at him. She wanted him to see how insane this was, how not okay. "If you think this is okay, then you're no better than them."

Chris sighed, "Let's go home. We can talk about it at home."

She shook her head furiously, and started walking again, "I need some air. I need–I can't go back home if he's there."

"You can't wander by yourself, it's still dangerous–"

"I'm not afraid of werewolves, dad! I'm afraid of him! He's out of his fucking mind!"

Chris had stopped, but he was still talking, trying to coax her back to him. She tuned his voice out completely and kept walking until she couldn't hear him anymore.

She wasn't sure how long she kept walking, but the next time she lifted her head and looked around, she wasn't in the woods anymore. She had reached the town, the neighborhood roads illuminated by streetlights.

She was, once again, stranded, unable to go back home. Well, she could come back, but she didn't want to. Trying so hard to be accepted back into her family wasn't worth it if Gerard was now part of it.

Eventually, she found a random patch of sidewalk and sat down on the ledge, hanging her head between her knees. Her heartbeat hadn't slowed down since she left, and she felt the cold sweat clinging to her back.

"Hey," a voice said softly. Mia looked up, ready to tell the person off for bothering her, but she was met by Derek. The man was crouching next to her balled up position. "I could hear your heartbeat freaking out from a mile away."

"Don't listen to it, then," she retorted. She didn't understand why she was being mean to him. It wouldn't solve any of her problems, and he wasn't the person she was angry at.

Derek sighed, "Come on. Stand up."

"Why?" she asked bitterly, "Who cares where I am? I'll either get killed by my grandpa or by one of you. I can't escape from this particular circle of hell."

Derek rolled his eyes and pulled her up anyway. They began walking together, with seemingly no purpose.

"I was there too," he finally spoke, "I saw what he did to that Omega."

"I'm sorry," she said and saw him smile pitifully, like her words meant nothing. She grabbed him by his jacket and made him stop and look at her, "No, I mean it. I'm sorry for what he's planning to do to all of you. I won't be a part of that."
