After Mia responded to her sister and Stiles, telling them she's on her way, Derek pulled her aside.

"Scott can't leave this basement," he whispered, "The full moon's tonight. He might be more in control this time, but it's not enough."

"But we need to get to Isaac before he breaks out and kills everyone at the station," she replied impatiently.

"Just leave me," Scott chimed in. He was sat on the floor, his breathing heavy. The full moon was already affecting him. Derek, on the other hand, seemed perfectly in control. Mia wondered how much energy that took, "I'll be fine. Just go save Isaac."

Derek looked at her, "I guess this is the perfect time to practice."

Usually, Mia would have denied any opportunity to use her new powers on people. She hated it, and she wasn't even sure she would be able to take control of anyone successfully. But her friends' lives were on the line, so she nodded without thinking.

"You're coming with me, by the way," she clarified once she realized Derek looked like he was about to leave them. He gave her a look and she grabbed him by the jacket, threatening, "Isaac is your responsibility now, and I don't have a weapon, so yes, you're coming."

Derek looked determined to argue, but finally stepped down once Mia's gaze didn't waver, "Fine. But don't expect me to babysit you. I can't protect everyone all the time."

His words gave her another idea. She smiled at him, shrugging off the insulting connotation of her helplessness, "You won't have to."

Despite the urgency of Isaac's situation, she made them wait a little longer. Derek was starting to get nervous. His face didn't betray any emotion, like usual, but she could see how tense his shoulders were, how he kept fiddling with the sleeves of his jacket.

Finally, they heard commotion upstairs. Allison appeared in the doorway, carrying a duffel bag. The dark and damp basement unsettled her, but she squared her shoulders and walked up to them anyway.

After finding out their family's secret, she had started to gain confidence. It took a little while, but now she was finally using her anger productively. Mia recognized it because she had taken the same approach - turning all that frustration and betrayal into determination, defying her parents' expectations of weakness.

"Here," Allison said, unzipping the bag. Among heavy chains and padlocks that were meant for Scott, she had brought an arsenal of knives and daggers. "It won't do the most damage, but this was all I could get."

"It's enough," Mia reassured her, grabbing a set of combat knives that were familiar to her. She had practiced with guns more, because that's what most hunters used, but she had developed a liking towards knives too. They were light and silent, a deadly weapon once she used it correctly.

"Be careful, please," Allison reiterated, not hiding her worry. She side-eyed Derek apprehensively. The man grimaced at her, offended.

Mia nodded, and squeezed her sister's hand, "You too."
