Assuming the two men weren't going to waste their time looking for Stiles, Mia grabbed her bag and prepared to just run all the way to the town if she had to, but Derek stopped her.

"We need to see Scott too," he said, and the three of them piled into his car. As Derek drove, Mia glanced at the rearview mirror at Peter, who was sitting in the back unfazed, looking at his nails. When he felt her gaze, he met it with a smug, laid-back smile, and Mia turned back with a heavy sigh.

"Scott is going to lose his mind."

As, predicted, Scott wasn't too happy about seeing Peter pop up with Derek and Mia on his side. They met at the school, where Scott and Isaac were preparing to find Stiles based on his scent.

"What the hell is this?" Scott asked, walking closer to the three of them, incredulous.

A slight smirk graced Derek's face, "I thought the same thing when I saw you talking to Gerard at the sheriff's station."

"Okay, hold on," Scott shook his head in disbelief, "He threatened to kill my mom! And I had to get close to him, what was I supposed to do?"

"I'm gonna go with Scott on this one," Peter interjected, and Mia had to bite her tongue to keep the annoyance inside, "Have you seen his mom? She's gorgeous."

"Shut up!" Scott and Derek yelled in unison.

Mia stepped further from the three werewolves, not wanting to end up in the crossfire. Isaac appeared at her side, leaning in carefully like a startled puppy,

"Who is he?" he asked.

"Peter, Derek's uncle," Mia replied, "It's a long story."

"Not that long," Scott said, glaring at Peter, "Little while back he tried to kill us all, and then we set him on fire, and then Derek slashed his throat."

Peter raised his hand, smiling awkwardly, "Hi."

"Good to know," Isaac nodded in return.

"How is he alive?" Scott asked, then glanced at Mia, who was trying to make herself invisible this entire time, "And why are you with them?"

"As much as it pains me to admit this," she sighed, giving him an apologetic look, "Peter helped me learn something very useful."

Scott looked confused, but before he could respond, Derek said, "Look, the short version is that Peter knows how to stop Jackson, and maybe how to save him."

Isaac sighed, "Well, that's very helpful, except Jackson's dead."

This time, it was their turn to be shocked. Mia didn't feel particularly bad about Jackson's death, but a part of her still thought he didn't deserve it. It wasn't his fault he turned into a monster, after all.

Mia instinctively looked at Peter, expecting him to know more than they do. He seemed to always be in on every situation, two steps ahead of anyone else. Still, he looked just as surprised and disappointed as Derek.
