CHAPTER THREE |
defying gravity
***
JASON WAS BULLSHITTING WITH WES in the senior commons like they always did on Monday afternoons before Warbler practice. To the Warblers and to pretty much the whole of Dalton Academy, he and Wes were the bromance to end all bromances. Sure, he and Blaine were super close and they were roommates after all, but nothing could touch the friendship he had with Wes. He was the only person on planet Earth (aside from now Kurt) who could ever tell what he was thinking and actually took the time to get to know him. He was so used to blending into the background that he never stopped to think about anyone noticing him, but Wes was his first friend at Dalton and throughout the past four years, that fact hadn't changed.
A knock wrapped on the open door and Jason looked up to see Kurt with a nervous smile, dressed in a real Dalton blazer and slacks. At first Jason thought he needed to rub his eyes. This surely had to be a dream, but when he did a doubletake and Kurt was still wearing the uniform, he realized that this was very much real.
Wes didn't seem to catch on, though. Jason really thought he had to have been blonde in another lifetime because Wes was really as clueless as they came. He chuckled. "You're getting a lot better at spying, Hummel."
Jason smacked his arm, whispering harshly. "He's not spying, idiot."
He got up off the couch, rolling his eyes as Wes rubbed his arm dramatically. He walked towards Kurt and said with a somber smile. "Time to transfer?"
"Yeah," Kurt choked out. His words were softer than Jason had ever heard from him. He knew Kurt well now and the usual loud mouth divo he knew wasn't before him right now. Instead he reminded him more of the Kurt Hummel that was watching their performance of Teenage Dream.
Kurt whispered directly to Jason. He was the only person in this school that knew about the bully situation. Blaine knew about the bully. Just not the lengths that things had reached. "The school board let him come back and I-I just couldn't... I couldn't be there anymore."
Jason shushed him quietly, pulling him into a well-deserving hug. He whispered soothingly. "You're safe here. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you."
Kurt pulled away, wiping his own tears with a breathless laugh. "I don't deserve you."
"You really don't." he said purely to make Kurt laugh and thankfully he did.
That smile was his favorite thing in the world. As much as he had been talking to Morgan for a few days and honestly he really did like her, he just couldn't stop thinking about Kurt. He was like a drug seeping through his veins. He was stuck on him. Nothing could get him out.
He was pulled out of his thoughts of everything Kurt when Blaine approached the duo and Jason saw Kurt's smile reach his eyes. He didn't smile like that with him. Only with Blaine. God, he wished he could be like Blaine. He had everything Jason wanted--all the solos, a dad that didn't hate him, but most of all, he had Kurt wrapped around his little finger and all Jason wanted was just a slice of the perfection that Blaine experienced everyday. He just wanted to be noticed once.
"Hey, Kurt." Blaine smiled so charmingly, making Jason frown as he pulled Kurt into a short but sweet side-hug. Jason had hugged Kurt a million times, but somehow it hurt knowing that Blaine had done the same thing.
"So here's the deal; you're totally in the Warblers now. And you're gonna be rooming with Trent. Don't worry. He's a total sweetheart." Blaine answered softly, making Kurt smile down at the ground. There was a slight blush on his cheeks and it made Jason unknowingly roll his eyes.
