CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE |
born this way

***

JASON HAS BEEN giving Kurt and Blaine their distance, mainly because he feels—and is—guilty. If he goes anywhere near Kurt again, he knows he'll want to kiss him again and if he goes anywhere near Blaine, he knows he'll have a breakdown and Blaine will never forgive him. He doesn't know if Kurt has said anything about their kiss, but Blaine hasn't come busting down his door yet.

For the most part, Jason has just been spending time by himself. He hangs out with Sebastian and they do just about everything they did before the incident, but he's taken to just sitting in his room and thinking a lot more since then—and most of his thoughts center around just how Sebastian could have forgiven him so easily. He knows if he turned the tables and Sebastian was the one who kissed someone else, he thinks he would've broken up with him. He wonders if it's a self esteem thing or maybe there's something more to it. He just can't explain how Sebastian has forgiven him like kissing someone else is nothing to him, even with his background. It still doesn't make sense.

Jason is pulled out of his reverie by his mom calling for him, saying he has a guest. He answers back and traipses down the steps, prepared to greet whoever it is. He smiles when he sees Blaine at the bottom of the stairs and goes in to hug his friend only to fall back when Blaine raises his fist and punches him in the nose.

Jason groans, pinches his nose as it begins bleeding. "What the fuck, Bee?"

Blaine's nose is flaring and he's gritting his teeth. "You kissed my boyfriend, jackass."

"Boys!" Angie comes into the room with an incredulous expression. "What is going on here? You're best friends!"

"We used to be," Blaine mumbles, standing back at Jason's mom steps between them.

Jason sighs, holding his head back. "It's—it's fine, mom. We just need a minute alone, okay?"

"Are you sure?" Angie looks back at Blaine who up until this moment she always considered as a second son.

Jason nods. "Yeah, uh, we'll be in my room. I'll call you if I need you. Promise."

Jason nods his head in the direction of his room and Blaine begrudgingly follows. His steps sound more like stomping and by the time they get up to Jason's room, he flops down on the bed. If it weren't for how aggressive Blaine came in, it would almost seem like just any regular hang-out.

Honestly, Jason is a little scared of him right now.

He moves over to his bedside table, grabbing a tissue to wipe away some of the bleeding. Blaine seems unfazed, propping himself up against Jason's pillows like he didn't just punch the shit out of his best friend.

When Jason has quelled most of the bleeding and he's wiping away the last vestiges of the assault, he looks at Blaine questionably.

"You're not gonna say anything?"

Blaine scoffs. "What do you want me to say? Sorry? I don't think so."

"I get it—you're mad, but it was a mistake. We moved past it. You should too."

Jason's response just makes Blaine angrier and he grits his teeth again. "You kissed my boyfriend. I'm not just gonna move past it, you asshole."

Jason sighs, taking a seat next to Blaine on the bed, though everything in him fears that might just get him punched again.

"I know things are complicated with us."

Blaine huffs at this, crossing his arms over his chest. "They're complicated because you've been going after Kurt ever since we got together, even though you have a boyfriend."
