CHAPTER TWO |
single ladies***
JASON WAS LAYING ON HIS BED WITH his computer on his lap, switching between the paper he was writing and the notes he was perusing to his side when his dorm room door slammed open and he saw Blaine strolling through with a dopey smile.
He rolled his eyes. "Oh no. What's up with you?"
Blaine waved him off, jumping onto his bed with a thud. "I just got back from a date."
Externally, Jason was smiling brightly, urging him to explain the same way that all best friends did, but internally, he was stressing. Please don't say Kurt. Please don't say Kurt.
"His name's Jeremiah." Blaine said dreamily and Jason visibly relaxed, his posture changing completely as he sat down his laptop for his best friend to talk to him.
He was just thanking whatever almighty power existed that Blaine hadn't said Kurt. He honestly wouldn't know what to say or do if that had been the case. Jason and Kurt had been texting each other fairly regularly and they'd even went out for coffee a few times, but Kurt was making it very clear that they weren't dates. It's not like Jason was upset about it either. Something was better than nothing.
Blaine spoke with an air of lovesick puppiness to him. "Anyway, he's in college and he's so so sweet. He works at the Gap! If we got married, I'd get a fifty percent discount."
Jason chuckled. "Isn't it a little early to be thinking about marriage?"
Blaine laid down on his bed, staring at the ceiling. "He's perfect, Jay."
Kurt's perfect, Jason wanted to say, but he knew it was severely inappropriate and knowing Blaine, if he ever heard about his little crush, he'd never hear the end of it and he could not have this getting back to Kurt.
Just before he could reply to Blaine's affirmations in any form, a text came through on his phone and he smiled, seeing that it was Kurt.
lil spy 🌈🤡
hey, i know it's super late, but i was wondering if i could call you?He furrowed his eyebrow as he texted back a yes with a confused gaze. Blaine didn't notice anything. In fact, his head had just hit the pillow and small snores started falling from his mouth. Seconds later his phone was vibrating and Kurt's call was coming through. He didn't want to wake Blaine, so he quietly snuck out of the room and to the hallway, accepting the call.
"Hey, your spyness. What's up?" He answered smoothly with a humor in his tone that seemed to immediately calm the other end.
A shaky chuckle left Kurt's mouth. "Hey, prince charming."
Kurt was good at hiding a lot of things, but he could never hide from Jason. In the weeks that they had been getting to know each other, he had started to notice the small things about Kurt that most people wouldn't care to notice--like the way his eyes would crinkle when he was really smiling and his left side was his most ticklish spot. Jason most noticed when Kurt wasn't truly happy and he could tell because there was difference in his tone that didn't match the look on his face. He could be wearing the most realistic looking smile in the world, but Jason could hear in his voice that something was off.
"I know something's wrong." Jason mumbled softly and he heard a heavy sigh come from the other end.
"Remember that Neanderthal I was talking about when we met?" Kurt asked and Jason let out a sound of agreement, realizing that the boy on the other end couldn't see him nodding.
"He kinda threatened me today..." his voice trailed and suddenly Jason felt the walls closing in on him, like he was completely engulfed in everything that Kurt was and his feelings were already becoming so big. He didn't want anyone to hurt him.
