CHAPTER EIGHT |
kurt's turn

***

KURT'S FEELINGS ABOUT JASON WERE up in the air. Of course Jason had always been his best friend and he was probably the only person on earth who really knew him. Even Mercedes didn't see so far into his soul the way that Jason seemed to, but he knew a lot of that had to do with the fact that Jason knew what it was like to be a man loving man and Mercedes did not. Still, there was this feeling right in the pit of his stomach that he just couldn't shake around Jason. Something had changed between them and he didn't know what, but he knew it had been growing and growing ever since that scare with Jason's father. In the moment, he just knew he had to protect him and he didn't care if he got hurt doing it. He just wanted Jason to be okay.

His thoughts had been running even more amuck since Jason started dating Morgan. He didn't know why. He really liked Morgan. She was a great girl and she was a good match for Jason, but he couldn't help feeling like something was wrong. He spent most of the Warblers Valentine's Day serenade looking at Jason and frowning every time his smile would fall away from Kurt and on to Morgan. He didn't know why it bothered him so much that his best friend was singing to his girlfriend, but it did. He tried not to dwell on it too much. He was putting almost all his energy into the Blaine crush and now at least the younger man knew of the crush. He hadn't expected Blaine to be so damn oblivious, but now that he knew, Kurt was hoping one day soon Blaine would change his mind.

Kurt was at home for the weekend when he heard Finn talking about a party Rachel was throwing (and even though he couldn't stand the diva songbird at least eighty percent of the time, he wanted to go). Kurt had missed his friends at McKinley immensely. It was hard being away from them all the time and seeing a select few every other weekend was not cutting it for him, so he blackmailed Finn into taking him to the party, squealing when his stepbrother finally agreed and immediately ran to his room to text Jason about it. He knew the obvious choice would be to invite Blaine first, but he was never one for being unoriginal.

bet, i'll totally go! can i bring morgan tho?

When Jason finally replied, Kurt felt the light inside him dying. He didn't really want him to bring Morgan, but he didn't exactly have a choice. Besides, Morgan was Tina's cousin and how pissed off did he want to make his favorite goth? He sighed out loud, immensely grateful for the fact that no one could hear him, as he answered back that it was fine and immediately went into his thread with Blaine to ask him to come to. He probably wouldn't have asked Blaine at all if Jason hadn't invited Morgan. He was sort of hoping they could just have a bro outing, but this was obviously not the case anymore.

When he got confirmation from Blaine that he was also coming, Kurt sighed and turned off his lamp, cuddling into his duvet and trying to keep his mind on the idea of Blaine confessing his undying love and pulling Kurt into a passionate kiss rather than the gag-inducing thought of seeing Jason shove his tongue down Morgan's throat tomorrow night.

Kurt and Blaine showed up to the party separately from Morgan and Jason. The latter two were late and traveled to Rachel's basement with red cheeks and swollen lips. Kurt was positive it wasn't from the March weather. Jason had mentioned in passing that he and Morgan had become much more serious and were becoming intimate, but Kurt tried to block it all out. It was enough to hear about his best friend's sex life, but it was a whole creature to hear about his sex life with a girl. That was definitely not Kurt's area of expertise.

Jason and Morgan arrived just as Puck broke into Rachel's dads' liquor cabinet and the alcohol started flowing. Kurt was not drinking. He told Finn it was so that he wouldn't get sloppy around Blaine, but he also just didn't want Jason to see him like that. Besides, based on the way Jason downed a shot like it was nothing, he was fully prepared to be nursing his best friend's hangover along with Blaine because the shorter man was definitely throwing back drinks way too fast.
