20. CANDLES

KURT MUDDLES OVER the kiss that missed for three days before he finally decides to say something and his timing couldn't be any worse. It's Jason's birthday party and he hadn't even invited either Kurt or Blaine and for good reason. Blaine obviously hurt his feelings on Friday night and he definitely didn't want to see Kurt after that kiss. He gets a text from Sebastian early that morning and all the blood rushes from his body thinking that Jason has told him about the kiss and he wants to beat him up, but instead it's all relatively friendly.

hey loser. jay is being a queen again, but his birthday party is tonight if you and B want to come and patch things up? honestly, he could use a friend.

Kurt hesitates before he texts back his confirmation. He's not sure how easily he'll be able to get Blaine on board with the plan. Blaine and Jason's friendship was so on again-off again, and anytime they were fighting they would both remain petty and brood quietly. But Kurt needed to talk this out. He was feeling rather conflicted. He loved Blaine, but there couldn't be denied that the kiss, however miniscule it was, made him feel something.

He scooted closer to Blaine on his bed, laying his head on his shoulder.

"Babe?"

Blaine hums in response, mumbling along to the soundtrack of Rocky Horror.

Kurt wraps an arm around Blaine's middle and cuddles up into his chest. Physical contact is really the only strategy he has to convince Blaine of anything. They don't get to be affectionate in public, so they love their time alone. It can't be denied that he sometimes uses his body to get what he wants.

Blaine drops his gaze down to Kurt and smiles. "What's up, honey?"

"Sebastian texted me. Jay's birthday party is tonight. Would you maybe want to come with me?"

He feels Blaine's hand freeze in its journey of rubbing up and down his back.

"Babe, c'mon. You have to forgive him sometime. You've been friends forever and it's his birthday." Kurt pleads with his boyfriend, but Blaine doesn't seem convinced.

Blaine sighs. "It's not that simple, Kurt. It was all fine until you came around."

"So it's my fault?" Kurt scoffs, sitting up and moving out of his boyfriend's arms.

"No, no," Blaine sighs, pulling Kurt's hands into his lap. "He changed, honey. And I get why. You're amazing and beautiful and perfect and I am so lucky I get to call you mine. He's just... he's trying to move on from you, but it's not really working. And I don't really want to be around someone who wants to steal my boyfriend from me."

Kurt pouts. "For me? Please? We can say hello and leave. Just try for me."

Blaine groans, looking into those puppy dog eyes and he can't resist. "Okay, okay. Fine. We'll make an appearance."

"Yay!" Kurt exclaims, throwing his body on Blaine's in a hug and pushing him into his fort of pillows.

It's not surprising that it moves far past a hug when Kurt kisses him, and then it's easy to forget his lips have ever been on Jason's.

Hours after the best sex they've had to date, Kurt and Blaine find themselves at Jason's door, giftless but there nonetheless. Kurt knocks on the door and he's almost grateful that it's Sebastian who answers. He's still not sure how he's going to approach kissgate yet. He already feels bad enough that he hasn't told Blaine yet, but he knows he needs to talk to Jason first. He doesn't want to ruin his birthday, but it has to be done.
