CHAPTER ELEVEN |
one of us***
THE SUMMER WAS A NEW EXPERIENCE for Jason. He still saw Kurt from time to time and they texted, but it was obvious the distance between them was getting in the way. Jason tried to put it behind him and just be a supportive friend again. He loved Kurt, but Kurt loved Blaine and he had no reason to interfere with that.
In June, they all went to Pride together. Jason dressed in the gayest outfit he owned and basically forced Blaine to wear matching eyeshow. Kurt took one look at him and laughed, calling him a gay bar superstar. It was a wonderful day. They danced and did karaoke and spread their love for men all across town. Jason was so enthralled in the parade itself that he barely noticed either Blaine or Kurt's presence and he considered that progress. Aside from when he watched them pose for a picture, a mlm flag flung around their shoulders as they shared a sweet kiss and he wanted to die a little bit at how perfect they were together.
But that was then and now it was August. A week before Jason's junior year began and the Warblers were having a mixer for potential new recruits. Blaine wasn't there. He was at Burt's birthday dinner and Jason was sure his best friend was cuddling up to Kurt all night long while he was stuck here mingling with random guys just itching to be a part of their club.
Jason sighed, leaning against the wall of the Wes's living room nursing a beer in his hands. He drank it sparingly in small sips. He was not the one to be a drunken mess in front of potential members. He wasn't much of a drinker either. It was just to take the edge off of the fact that he was still jealous of Blaine--that he might always be jealous of Blaine.
"You want some company?" a soft tenor broke Jason away from daydreams about Kurt and instead directed his gaze to a boy that reminded him of Kurt.
He was tall and Jason wasn't a short guy, but this guy had to be at least six foot. His hair coiffed up seemed to add to his height. He had rosy pink lips that lifted into a tiny smirk, but what struck Jason the most were his eyes--forest green with hints of blue in them. That was what reminded him of Kurt the most and he found himself wondering how the hell he'd managed to find his best friend's doppelganger.
"Um, sure." Jason mumbled, scooting over to make room for the other boy between the pool table and the other wall.
The boy held his hand out. "I'm Sebastian Smythe."
"Jason Moreno." he answered as he shook the other man's hand. He noted that his grip was firm and lightly calloused. Probably a guitar player of some sort.
"So how long have you been a Warbler?" Sebastian made small talk.
Jason took a sip of his beer before he answered. "Going on year three now. Are you a transfer?"
"Yeah. We moved from Paris." Sebastian stated nonchalantly.
His eyes widened as he listened to the taller boy talk. "Paris? What the hell are you doing in bumfuck Ohio?"
Sebastian's laugh was warm as he tilted his head back. "My dad is an attorney and he got transferred out here. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to stay home, so here I am."
"Did you perform in Paris?" Jason asked.
"Oh, yes. Our show choir was quite good. I was captain last year and led us all the way to our nationals. We placed fourth."
"Wow. That's kind of amazing. The Warblers have never even gone to nationals."
"Maybe that'll change this year." Sebastian smirked, his eyes traveling up and down Jason's body in a way that should creep him out but somehow also seemed kind of hot.
