after a short car ride later, a mental debate for daniel to go to her apartment, aubrielle running up the stairs, and hailey rushing to explain a summary, "went shopping, clothes, car seat, my car" she stammered
"got it" she grabbed james from hailey, "how about you, you're okay?" she asked, watching as hailey shortly presented baby clothes that were on the couch.
hailey sucked in a breath to calm herself, "enough, I'm gonna go visit him in the hospital" she explained, "why don't we go get that car seat?" she asked, making her way to the front door
"I'm sorry, i know he meant a lot to you, did you get any detail?" aubrielle asked, following hailey down the stairs
"just about the crash, they didn't say anything wrong with him" hailey explained, although it was brief that's exactly what she was given. she unlocked her car and struggled to take the car seat out of hers.
"here" daniel jogged over from his parked car, that was only about ten feet away. he grabbed the car seat easily and placed it on the ground next to aubrielle.
"i was gonna ask if you need help taking the car seat up, but there's your help" she raised her eyebrows, a faint smile curved her lips before she opened the drivers side, "i think I'll come by tomorrow" she said, nodding her head and quickly leaving the parking garage.
"alright help, you heard her" aubrielle spoke to daniel, tickling james before walking next to daniel who had grabbed the car seat, "we'll take the stairs, elevator takes forever" she explained, glancing at two people who waited for the next one.
"alright" daniel responded, following her up the stairs. aubrielle opened her unlocked door, stepping into it. she didn't bother turning around until two syllables left james's mouth
"dada" aubrielle looked at her son, to see that his gaze was fixated on daniel but quickly went to her face. she was shocked that he spoke his first words. she was even more shocked that he was able to recognize daniel.
"no way" aubrielle breathed out, shaking her head in disbelief; it was both that james spoke and his first word. it wasn't until she saw daniel's face, which was filled with adoration that her disbelief was mostly because he said his first word. her anger that was being boiled, had completely disappeared. next, she couldn't contain her happiness as she let out a cheer and a small laugh from the excitement of it.
"yes! dada!" daniel cheered walking up to aubrielle with his arms out for james, once he had been smoothly passed he let out a laugh, "hi baby" he coo'd to james. meanwhile aubrielle took the clothes and reluctantly left them to go put away the clothes.
"that's his first word" aubrielle gently spoke as she came back to the two, standing on the opposite side of daniel, james was on. "and I'm not mad about it" she admitted, smiling at her son, her dimples apparent. a silence fell before them before daniel and aubrielle both simultaneously let out a breathe of air through their lips, "holy, that's his first words"
"woah, that's crazy" daniel voiced, handing aubrielle james before spinning around the empty space next to the dining table and behind the couch, "woah" he breathed out, squatting down to the floor cupping his nose in a triangle with his hands. aubrielle watched his actions, she only drew her gaze away from him when he stood up. "you don't mind if I stay, do you?" he asked, walking up to aubrielle again
