THIRTEEN

it's been three days since the appointment. three days since aubrielle and daniel saw the little blob in her stomach. three days since daniel took home his copy of the photos. three days of aubrielle wondering his genuine reaction of it. three days of him wrapping his head around it. three days since the two had talked to each other.

it wasn't until daniel came knocking on her door to ask about the results for james, "what are you doing here?" aubrielle asked after opening her door, with james on her hip

"it's been three days, i just thought i'd stop by" he replied, "but more so for the results, have they come in?" he asked, awkwardly standing in the door frame, glancing around the hallway

aubrielle gulped, "yeah, they called, yesterday actually" she replied, "why haven't you texted? at all?" she asked, she couldn't help herself that these questions circulated her mind long enough to come out annoyed but it could be mistaken as concern, or was it the other way around?

"i didn't know i was required to" daniel said gaining a temptation to eye roll, something he picked up quickly that aubrielle has a habit of, his response was egged on by aubrielle's slight attitude after all.

"that's not what i meant. i meant that you haven't texted or called and if we're being honest, i thought you didn't care about this anymore and just tried to forget" she admitted, it was true. these past few days she wondered why he hadn't tried to come over. especially after he said he wanted to spend more time with james.

"i was just wrapping my head around it, can you just tell me the results?" he briefly explained and questioned, getting a bit impatient and irritated with aubrielle's comments

aubrielle took a deep breathe and for a brief moment she thought about lying, lying about the results and have them both lose contact. she, could care less, but eventually she knew that she would feel some type of guilt. "why don't you come in, yeah?" she softly asked, complete change in her attitude, "we're going to have a lot to talk about"

if the answer wasn't clear enough, then it was the shock of her attitude change. but it was, and he knew what she was about to say. he knew that at this very exact moment, his life would change once again. he took a shaky breath in and stepped inside of her apartment, he immediately went and sat down at the dinning table.

aubrielle followed into the living room, still close enough for daniel to hear her as she cleaned james's toys up, "i got the results printed out, just in case you wanted some proof" she explained, walking back over to him with a piece of paper. she waited until his head looked up at her, to even hand the paper

he gently took it, and brought it back to him, quickly reading the paper before whispering the results, "the alleged father is not excluded as the biological father of the tested child" then he read it again, and once again, glancing at the '99.998%' near the bottom. aubrielle grew annoyed and was so close in speaking her thoughts, the results aren't going to change no matter how many times you re read it. but she kept her thoughts to herself when she saw his watery eyes after he set the paper on the table. she saw as his body shook with a sob, when his head bent down carried by his hands, elbows on the table. she saw as his hands rubbed his face trying to stop crying, but it was replaced with a few sobs in return. her thoughts were completely blank for a minute, then she briefly thought about telling him to man up and that his life isn't ruined.

but did she not cry when she found out the results for both james and the one in her stomach? did she not cry when she moved out of her parents home? did she not cry when she practically had to change her life? when her life would technically fall under the terms of 'ruined'? didn't she cry when she didn't get accepted in any more acting roles? when she lost motivation and couldn't continue her music career? she did. she cried for every single one of those. in fact, didn't most of those lead with tons of breakdowns?(all of them did).
