FORTY-FOUR

"i'm gonna trip!" aubrielle yelled, tightening her grip on daniel's hands when she felt herself stumble. the dirt and small rocks from under her soon turned into grass and small sticks.

"you're not going to trip," daniel replied, "i wouldn't let you," he promised. daniel was currently leading her to death- not actually, that was just aubrielle's first thought. he was currently leading her through a hiking trail for a surprise he had set up.

"i still don't understand why i have to be blindfolded if we were going to walk half an hour, couldn't you have waited until now?" she asked as she blindly followed daniel. her grip still tight in his hands.

"it wasn't half an hour, it was five minutes. if i waited until now you would see the surprise," he replied, slowing his pace to a stop.

"sure felt like half an hour," she mumbled, "wait. does that mean we're here?!"

"yes, we're here," he answered and quickly brought his hands to her arms when she let go and reached to take off her blindfold, "hold on, not yet,"

"oh gosh, so you lied, because this seems like a great opportunity to wack me in the head with something so then i become unconscious," aubrielle claimed. her first thought definitely still stuck around the whole five minutes of walking.

"for the last time, i'm not going to murder you, or harm you in any way actually," he clarified, "i just wanted you to wait because i wanted to explain first," he said and she nodded her head. "okay, so yesterday you asked me out, right?" he asked and she nodded her head again. "so, you took so long to plan a date i decided to do it, you can take off your blindfold now,"

"it was only yesterday," she mumbled but didn't waste a second to rip off her blindfold. her jaw dropped in awe as she admired the small picnic he had set up. there was a grey blanket on the ground and a cute basket was set on top of it. as she walked closer there was a bottle of wine sticking out of the basket .

"do you like it," he asked as he followed the girl to the blanketed area. he gently held her hand and helped her sit down on a black pillow that was meant for cushion since the blanket didn't do much.

"no," she responded and immediately looked at him for his reaction, "kidding! I love it!" she honestly cheered. daniel's smile turned into a grin and his tooth gap was on display as he opened the basket. first he pulled out the bottle of wine and dramatically presented it. "you know I can't drink,"

"you're right, I do know that" he agreed, "that's why i had anna and christian finish the wine before i cleaned it out and poured grape juice into it," he explained with a smile and looked at her expectantly. almost as if he was asking for approval for what he took the time to do.

"i love it, i'll basically be tricking my mind to think that i'm drinking wine except it's not,"

"but it's basically the same thing," he shrugged before pulling out a party size bag of cool ranch doritos and a foot long sandwich, "i thought about doing crackers, and grapes, and anything else people usually put into a basket but i just thought you would enjoy this more," he finished with a grin on his face as he watched aubrielle not waste a second and dive into the dorito bag.

"thank you," she replied before stuffing another chip into her mouth. "for more than this picnic," another chip went into her mouth, "for showing me how to trust," she said before swallowing the collected chips, "and for showing me how to care for someone. for showing me how to love," her blue eyes met his.
