aubrielle pulled away from daniel's forehead with her eyebrows furrowed. she was about to question what he said until he repeated his words, "i'm sorry,"
"sorry for what?" aubrielle asked. sorry that he kissed her back?
daniel pulled away the rest of the way, they were two feet away from each other. he handed her back her phone, "why don't we go back to mine?" he suggested, taking a step towards where he had parked earlier.
aubrielle didn't want this suggestion, so she stepped forward and pulled back his arm; causing daniel to turn to her with a look of distraught on his face, "are you serious? how about you tell me what you're sorry for?"
"i just can't, i can't do this, let's just go," he answered before walking back to his car, this time aubrielle made no movement to stop it. did she really want to spend an awkward car ride with daniel? no. but if she didn't, she was scared that she would be the one throwing whatever they had out. so she followed him and silently went into the passengers side and buckled up. what couldn't he do? a kiss? what's this? a relationship?
although the car ride was silent for the most part. daniel had raised the volume to the radio in hopes to mute the silence. meanwhile, aubrielle didn't feel the silence because question after question circulated in her mind.
so much for making the first move...
"and that's how it went," aubrielle explained to nicolette and hailey. the two had mutually took the day off work because aubrielle hadn't left her house in four days, not even for a hike. james on the other hand, did. anna, had kindly come over and took him out a few times. she knew something happened between daniel and aubrielle because when they arrived they two seemed off. they seemed to act like strangers in the short time they were together before aubrielle left.
"and he didn't give you any reason?" hailey asked, gently pulling james hand away from his mouth. aubrielle shook her head in response, "and you two haven't been talking?"
"i've tried calling, he never picks up. when i text he answers late and says that he's working on music," aubrielle explained, her hand running through the mere roots of her natural brown hair, something that had grown over time and she kept telling herself she'll go and get it re-done so she didn't have an akward length of brown roots.
"and do you believe him?" hailey questioned
"is there a reason i shouldn't?" aubrielle asked, rubbing her hand over her face in frustration, "...he has been busy with music before, so yeah, i believe him,"
"okay, and has he seen james at all?" hailey asked. meanwhile nicolette was making dinner.
"not that i know of," aubrielle quietly responded. then all the feelings hit and she started to cry, "you also know what fucking sucks?"
"elle," nicolette softly spoke, turning away from making dinner to walk over to her and pull her into a hug, "what also sucks?" she asked, trying her best to comfort her without letting her own habits get in the way.
"that with all of this, i'm starting to feel a shit ton of pregnancy symptoms; my feet are swollen, some of my bras don't fit anymore, and i have hella mood swings. there's moments where i don't mind the situation and then a few minutes later, it feels like i'm in the worst situation ever." aubrielle vented, a few sobs leaving her mouth as she spoke.
