"thanks for the ride, i guess" aubrielle mumbled, getting out of daniel's car
"no problem, i'll see you later, okay?" daniel replied, leaning over to get a better view of aubrielle through the window.
"yeah, sure, you know where i live now" aubrielle shrugged, turning around and walked through a set of doors taking the staircase up to her apartment room. where she walked in, immediately greeted by her crying son, "oh my baby" aubrielle coo'ed, holding her arms out to take him.
"he hasn't fallen asleep since you left" nicolette said, "or eaten"
"oh alright, that's fine, i wasn't gone for long" aubrielle replied, taking james who had calmed down to the couch, to feed him, "you just want it from the source" she laughed softly, and admired his blue eyes that just shut from relaxation
"so, how did it go?" nicolette asked, sitting on the couch with her, "did you guys argue again?"
"well, yeah, he got upset that i was talking about him. i didn't mean that in a rude way" aubrielle said, "but we're fine now, he went home and took a copy of the photos"
"oh! can i see?" nicolette perked up once she mentioned the photos
"i put them on the table" aubrielle replied, nodded her head up before looking down st her son, breastfeeding
immediately nicolette sat up and quickly made her way over to the table. she carefully opened the envelope and admired the photos before speaking, "did you cry this time?"
"yeah, a little bit" aubrielle replied, looking at the clock on the wall
"did he cry?" nicolette asked, taking the photos to the couch catching aubrielle's eyes
"no, he didn't really have a reaction" aubrielle shrugged, "i think he might just be shocked"
"that would make sense" nicolette agreed, putting the photos back in the envelope and placing them on the coffee table, "hailey should be back soon, she wanted to buy james some new toys"
"yeah?" aubrielle responded, "that's nice of her" she thought aloud, and once james had pulled away, she brought her top back up. "it was kind of weird after, it was just different the whole time there and I don't understand why" aubrielle said
"maybe it was the conversations you guys held, you understand his reasons a but more, don't you?" nicolette replied, turning off the TV that bad been playing a colorful cartoon.
"I guess some stuff makes a bit more sense, but I easily dropped my career when I knew I was going to have james... im not saying he needs to drop anything, but, I dont know, not be so uptight about it? he literally found out he had a kid and he still only cares about his management" she spoke her last word in a mocking manner, and she didn't realize that she was annoyed until nicolette's question.
"when you accepted you were having james" nicolette corrected before following up with her next question, and theory, "do you want him to care more? to show that he cares more? let him be there more?"
"what? no. what kind of question is that? have you met me and my past? all men do is walk away when things get hard and they always take something with them. I wouldn't be stupid enough to fall for it again" she defended. defended. nicolette was only asking a few simple yes or no questions, but aubrielle felt like she needed to go more than her 'no' to fully explain herself and briefly go back to the subject that caused her to be so guarded.
