He went upstairs. The computer was running. Marvin walked up to it. The channels page was open, and he skimmed through the videos. His assumption got confirmed by the latest video. Only moments ago, Mark and, Ethan had done almost the exact same thing Unus and Annus had done in the backyard. Whatever it was that they had been doing.
»What are you doing?« Unus's voice snapped him out of his pondering.
»Come in here, you two.« He waved them over. »Take a look at this.«
They positioned themselves left and right of him, looking over one shoulder each.
He clicked on the most recent video and skipped forward.
»It's the Disclaimer Song!« Unus excalimed. »How's that possible?«

»It's called a Convergence.« Marvin explained. »Something that happens subconsciously when a person begins to be aware of the different entities in their minds.«
»Could you stop being cryptic for once?« Annus asked, in a sarcastic, yet friendly tone.

»It's a common misconception that a person has just one personality. In reality, there's a lot of different versions of the person in their mind. During their life, a person will create many different personalities. Life is a constant process of growing and creating oneself anew.«
»Are you saying that every human has multiple personalities?«

»Not in the sense the phrase is commonly used in. Most people don't even realize it. They live their whole lives, behaving like different people in front of friends, family, colleagues, their boss, et cetera. They adopt phrases, behavioural patterns, even personality traits from other people, real or fake. I myself am such an alter ego, of Seán McLoughlin.«
»He's a friend of Mark and Ethan, right?« Annus asked.

Marvin nodded. »The interesting thing about all three of them is that they seem to be aware of this process of creating alter egos. Seán for example is aware enough of me that we were able to talk before.«
»I don't think Ethan ever noticed me.«
»That's because both Ethan and Mark were not aware of your existence at all. You were born from their subconscious, and something tore you out. You were transported into this machine before they could form you into fully fledged alter egos.«
»How can that be?« Annus asked.
Marvin shook his head. »I don't know.«

»That Convergence thing you mentioned,« Unus asked, »What was that about?«
»A Convergence can happen when a person begins to be aware of an alter ego. They connect with that ego in their actions. Once the connection between you and Ethan, or Mark in Annus's case, is strong enough, you might be able to return back into their consciousness.«

A terrible thought rose up in Annus's mind. »Are Dark and Blank egos too?« What would that say about Mark and Ethan?
»No. Dark is an entity that possessed a friend of Mark a long time ago. It took his form, but I can assure you that he was not created by Marks mind. The same goes for Blank.«
»Although I'm not quite sure what he is,« Marvin added a bit more quietly.

»So, the Convergence is a great thing,« Annus recapped. »What's our next step?«
»We'll continue your training. Strengthening you will also strengthen your bond to Mark and Ethan. Once it's strong enough, we'll figure out how to get you out of here.

Later that night, Marvin laid on the couch, his eyes open. He couldn't sleep, but he had no ideas why not. Blanks terrifying absence of energy was still in the prison he had put him in, so that wasn't it.
Something about the silver light of the Convergence didn't seem right to him. Yet, he couldn't put his finger on it, and it drove him crazy. He threw himself to the other side, trying to distract his mind with a basic meditation exercise.
After what felt like hours, he finally drifted off into an uneasy sleep.
