»Well aren't you a pretty one. All done up for me. « Dark took a step sideways. This yeager was different.
»DO NOT PATRONIZE ME, ERROR.« Yup, different. The others didn't speak. Or have a plan of attack. The green masked yeager began to strafe sideways too. For a brief moment, they were silently circling each other, eyes locked onto the enemy. The machine lunged forward, and in that very moment, Dark pressed a button on the watch.
The bright flash of light erased the sharp claws that came at him. A moment later he was back at the nightly field. Unus and Annus would be overjoyed to hear the news of an intelligent yeager. Something grabbed his ankle just as he took so step forward. He ungracefully lost footing and rolled down half of the hill. He jumped back to his feet. A sharp metal arm was lodged through the glowing portal, pressing against it's closing walls. The yeager flung itself through, flying at him with insane speed. It took him off his feet, barely avoiding his shoulder with it's metal blade.
He tucked his feet in and kicked it off him. Not wanting to give it any more opportunity, he followed up with a powerful blast. It had absolutely no effect. The green mask was unfazed. In fact, the outline of the yeager was glowing red and blue, which definitely was not a good thing.
»DO NOT RUN, ERROR. YOU WILL NEVER EXTERMINATED BY A.M.Y. 11325.« Dark did run.»Fire up the engines, Goatman,« he yelled in full sprint. »Get us the hell out of here.«
With a bewildered look on his face, Gupti opened up the glass doors of the tubes. Dark didn't bother slowing down. His shoulder slammed into the hind wall, and the glass closed in front of him. AMY unhinged her jaw. Something beneath her mask began to glow, but his vision went black before he could see what happened. He hit the ground a second time today, and seconds later, the other three followed. They were thrown out to the ground next to him. Unus's suit was smoking from a charred spot at the jacket.
»What the fuck was that?« He yelled at Dark, trying to pad out the small flames.
»Seems like our friends gave steroids to a yeager,« he responded, taking am moment to catch his breath. »That stupid tin can ate my energy like breakfast buffet.«
»You think Anti has to do something with it?« Annus had a concerned look on his face.
»No, I'm sure it picked out the signature green color because it likes the way it compliments the blade arms.«»We don't have time for this,« Unus said, getting up. »Gupti, where are we?«
»I got us as close to the portal as I could. It will open not too far from here.«
Unus briefly analyzed their surroundings. The air was hot and humid, and enormous trees surrounded them. The ground was muddy, covered in roots and plants.»We better get going then.« A burning sensation shot up his leg, and it gave away. A vine had wrapped around his calf, and it felt like hot steel burning into it.
»Don't touch it!« He yelled as Annus reached down to untangle it. His fingers stopped just in time. He broke off a stick from a nearby tree and used it to get the leg free.
»Are you alright?«
»Unlikely,« Gupti chimed in. »This hostile environment must be a way of keeping us away from the portal.«Unus sucked in air through his teeth as the muscles in his leg spasmed. »I don't think I can walk like this.«
Annus crouched down next to him. He put his palms on the red skin, and began to massage it. »It should make the cramp go away,« he explained. He didn't know how he knew this, but right now, he didn't care.
With his help, Unus got up, carefully putting weight on his foot. He grimaced, but could at least limp.He inhaled the hot air. This was it. There was no way back. A.M.Y. would probably be here soon, the portal could open any second - with or without them - and he felt something else. Anti was here.
