Mark breathed out and leaned back. Despite all the goofs they made in the video so far, this was kind of relaxing. As he began to zone out, Annus saw his chance.
Being sent into Marks mind was indescribable at best. He felt dizzy, and had support himself with his hand resting on the table. He closed his eyes, and suddenly, the table wasn't there anymore. His hand grabbed air, and he fell forward. It was a similar sensation to the sense of falling one might experience before sleep.
The first thing he noticed as he arrived was how his body felt. Actually being in a physical body was completely different than the limbo he and Unus had been experiencing up until now. Yet at the same time, he felt distant from everything, as if he was watching a first person movie.
Unus flinched when Annus fell forward through the table, vanishing in a cloud of white smoke. He threw a quick look at the screen to make sure that Annus had arrived safely, sighing when he saw Mark being surrounded by a barely visible white glow.
There wasn't any time to lose. Praying to whatever power might hear him, he walked up to the door. He could only hope that Dark and the other guy were busy dealing with Annus at the moment.
He unlocked the door to the hallway and was greeted with cold wind and a low hum. He took a deep breath, scanning around. There was a simple wall clock floating in the air just a couple of steps away from him. It was the kind you might find in classrooms or at the doctors.
Eyes on the prize, he thought. Without wasting any more time, he ran into the hallway, jumped up and grabbed it. He instantly turned around, rushing back to the door and throwing himself into the safe room.
He put the clock down on the floor and got up to close the door. But it was already to late.
Annus, in the meantime, got to experience the working part of their plan. Not that it would have been any more pleasant. Ethan next to him had grown quiet. Too quiet.
He heard a whisper in his ear. »What a clever trick. I'm still mad that you showed up before I got rid of Unus, by the way. Now, let Blank take care of 'ya. I for my part will greatly enjoy this.«
Annus felt the panic rise up inside him, but he was unable to move Marks body. He struggled to gain a bit more control. Just for a second. Just so that Blank wouldn't win. He felt a wet cloth being pushed on Marks face. Again, he tried to move Marks muscles with all the will power he could muster. But it had no use.
»You should leave before Mark gets hurt.« Blank whispered into his ear. The panic mixed with anger about that little fucker. Marks body began to spasm, a survival reflex, not Annus' control. He tried to hold on for a few more seconds, just to buy Unus some time, but the pull was too strong.
He shot up, breathing heavily. The water and the cloth over his face were gone. He was back at the room, sitting on the floor the same way he sat in Marks bathtub, the clock laying next to me. He looked around, his heart still pounding out of his chest from the near - death experience.
»Unus?«
