Unus carefully bedded Annus's head on a pillow. His breathing was shallow, and his face was almost as white as his suit. The front of his jacket and shirt had darkened, the deep red exchanged by a dark shade of brown.
He put his hand against his forehead. It was cold, and sweaty. What was he supposed to do now? Yes, the bleeding had stopped, but what now? He wasn't a doctor, and neither could he miraculously heal him with a wave of his hand like Marvin. He tried it, of course, holding out his palm over the gash on the shoulder. But there was no golden light, no change beneath the dark cloth.

He looked down at his friend. In a few hours, they had lost Marvin, Blank was free and Annus was badly injured. But wallowing in self pity wouldn't help anyone. He walked over to the bathroom, where he found the bandages Rachel had used for his arm. He only wished that there'd be some of the green paste left. It had worked wonders on his wound.

He lifted the unconscious Annus into a sitting position, taking off the torn fabric. The dried blood made it stickto the skin around the wound, and he had to go back to the bath to get some warm water.
He wiped the blood off the edges, and wrapped the bandage over Annus's shoulder. He checked his throat for the wound where the knife had cut, but it pinkish red scar tissue had formed where it was, possibly the effect of Darks blood.

Dark. His mind kept going back to him. It was his fault that Annus was in this condition. His fault that Marvin was the way he was. His fault that Rachel was dead. A hot anger bubbled up in his guts. Because right now, Dark was sitting in the kitchen, not giving a single shit if they'd survive. He slowly lowered Annus back onto the pillow.

As he had guessed, Dark was lounging on a chair downstairs. He had a big smile on his face.
»You enjoy this, don't you?« Unus's voice cut the air like a blade of ice. Dark didn't even try to hide his glee. »I've always liked Marvin. But Anti? That's something else.« He looked up to Unus who was standing in front of him. »I'd say I'd cut his throat, but well...you've seen it yourself.«

The hot feeling in his guts boiled up, spilling over in his chest. Adrenaline rushed through his body as he grabbed Dark by the collar, slammimg him against the wall.
»This is all just a game for you, isn't it?« He hissed.
Something flickered in Darks eyes, almost as if he had hid a nerve. »If this was a game, I would have gotten rid of you two, because so far, you've been absolutely worthless.«

Unus dragged him sideways, and before he realized what was going on, he found himself flying through the air. Dark crashed into a glass table in the other room, sharp fragments burying into his back. He rolled sideways, away from the stabbing pain in his shoulder blades.

Before he could get up, a kick to the stomach pushed the air out of his lungs.
»This is why you're here anyways, right? To watch us suffer.« Unus kneeled down besides him. »Say it!« He screamed into his face.

»I am here because I don't know how to get out of here either.« There was genuine anger in Dark's voice. Unus was taken aback. Dark was the evil one. That's how it had been since his first day in the Machine. Right?

Without saying a word, he walked away. The portal to Marvins study was still open. He hesitated for a second. Then, he stepped through. It was the only place he could be alone for a while, which was exactly what he needed right now.

His eyes wandered over the trashed room. There were torn books and papers and ripped out pages and broken glass everywhere. He sat down on the step elevating the alcove on which the telescope stood. Miraculously, it didn't have a single scratch.

He spotted something white on the floor next to the dried blood. It was Marvin's fox mask, broken into multiple pieces.
