"The thing is, heroes win all the time. Villains, however, only get to win once. This is purely a show of how little evil is supposed to triumph over good. When villains claim victory, heroes say: merely. We live, so that they can crush us into oblivion. Heroes in the story are always the embodiment of perfect. And all villains are flawed souls, destined to be overthrown, destined to be forever hated from the shadows. Heroes except us to be gnarled, barren and ugly. Heroes underestimate our abilities because they have centuries of triumphant blood in their veins that can't say otherwise.  So in reality, us villains, never win. Our victory is simply a slight delay in the course of inevitable events. Good always triumphs over evil. That's the way of the world."
