We jog into the orchard, both carrying a shotgun filled with rock salt. It was eerily quiet and the thick fog and towering trees makes it all the creepier.
"Maybe they didn't go into the orchard?" I ask in a questioning voice.
"Yeah. Yeah, maybe they just got out of their car and decided to walk to their next destination." Dean sarcastically agrees.
"Smartass." I mumble quietly. My ears perk up at the sound of gasping and feet pounding against dried leaves in our direction. Dean and I pick up our pace, nearly running. When we pass one of the many trees, I dig my feet into the ground just before I collide into the couple.
"Get back to your car." Dean demands them. I look over the girls shoulder, spotting the scarecrow that was hastily following them.
"Go! Now!" I shout at them when they don't move. The man grabs his girlfriend and pulls her away and back to where we came from. I raise my gun at the same time as Dean and we both fire at it.
"Crap." I whisper when the rock salt does nothing but make it angrier. Dean and I start running away from the scarecrow as well, shooting round after round to at least slow it down. I run faster at the sight of the Impala straight ahead, almost right behind the couple.
"Dean! Hurry up!" I shout back at him when I look behind me and see him slightly behind. He stops shooting and quickly catches up to us. I whip around, pump my shotgun and raising it as soon as we all reach the Impala.
"What-" the guy pants. My eyes are wide as I look for the scarecrow, expecting it to follow us to the orchard's gate, but it's nowhere. All I saw was fog and dead leaves. "What the hell was that?"
"Don't ask." Dean says.
"You think it's gone?" I tilt my head towards Dean to ask quietly.
"For now." He answers, lowering his shotgun. I turn to the other two.
"Are you two alright?"
"Define alright." The guy asks. I let out a breathless chuckle.
After getting the two of them to the nearest town, we go to the nearest motel in town to clock out for the night.
"Ahh." I sigh out as I finally hit the cheap mattress after changing into a tank top and cotton pj shorts. I stare up at the popcorn ceiling.
"Long day, huh?" Dean chuckles.
"Mmhmm." I hum in agreement, using the tip of my boot to help me take off the other one then vise versa before moving my body fully onto the bed. Since Sam wasn't here I took what would've been his bed. I didn't see a point in wasting money on separate rooms if we could just share two queens. I wonder where he was right now. "I miss him." I admit out loud after listening to Dean hum some random song for a minute as he shuffles around the room unpacking our stuff. I hear him stop midway from unzipping a duffle.
"Sam?"
"Who else?" I sigh. Sitting up, I lean against the headboard and look into those apple green eyes. "Don't you...don't you feel bad? For just...ditching him. I sure as hell do." I quietly mutter the last part, looking down at my hands. I hear Dean move towards his bed and sit down but I don't look up.
"I do." He admits with a sigh. "But Sam's gotta go his own way. If he wants to ignore our dad's orders and go to California to find him, then who am I to stop him." He shrugs.
"Yeah."
"What I don't understand is why you went with me. I thought as soon as you caught scent of our dad's trail, you'd be right behind Sam, looking for him." I look up at him with a pointed glare.
