I hear the banging of metal against metal, followed by screams just around the corner. I look over at Sam with wide eyes.
"That doesn't sound good." The three of us turn the corner and run down the corridor to where Dean's trying to pry open a door with a crowbar.
"What's going on?" Sam asks his brother.
"She's inside with one of them." Dean explains shortly, still trying to open the door.
"Help me!" Kathrine screams. I rest a hand on the door, leaning closer to try and hear what's happening on the other side.
""Kat!" Gavin screams from behind me.
"Get me out of here!"
"Work faster, Dean." I rush out.
"I'm trying." He grunts, jamming the crowbar into the door again.
"Kat, it's not gonna hurt you." Sam tries to tell her. I hear her cry out in fear."Listen to me, you have to face it. You have to calm down."
"She's gotta what?" Dean and I ask, looking at Sam like he's crazy.
"I have to what?!" She shouts.
"These spirits, they're not trying to hurt us, they're trying to communicate." Sam explains. I nod when I realize what he's getting at.
"Sam's right, Katherine. You've got to listen to it. You gotta face it."
"You face it." She whines.
"I can't, you have to do it if you want to get outta there, kid."
"No!" She says fearfully.
"Look at it, that's all. Come on, you can do it." Sam encourages.
Then it's deadly silent for what feels like ages. No banging, no screaming, no nothing. You could literally hear a pin drop if one were to.
"Kat?" Gavin tests carefully.
"I hope you guys are right about this." Dean says.
"Yeah, me too." Sam gulps. I tap my foot anxiously as another five seconds pass by. We all back up when the sound of the door unlocking echoes throughout the corridor. Slowly, the door creaks open and there Katherine stood, completely zoned out, right behind it.
"Oh, Kat." Gavin sighs in relief. Dean pulls her out the room so that Sam and I can go check inside, but whatever was in there is already long gone. I shake my head over at Dean, telling him there's nothing left.
"137." Katherine says, making us all look over at her.
"Sorry?" Dean asks.
"It whispered in my ear...'137.'" Sam, Dean, and I look at each other.
"Room number." We say together. I pull them away from Katherine and Gavin.
"So if these spirits are friendly..." I trail off.
"And they aren't trying to hurt anyone-" Sam says.
"Then what are they trying to do?" Dean questions as he crouches down to put the crowbar away in the duffle he's been carrying around.
"Maybe that's why they've been trying to communicate with us." I suggest.
"I guess we'll find out." Dean zips the duffle bag shut, gets up and turns to the young couple.
