"So how's it lookin'?" I ask around the candy bar dangling from my mouth as I walk back towards the Impala. I had to go for a bathroom break.
It happens.
Sam glances over his shoulder to me then focuses back on the map he's checking out.
"Okay, so I think I found a way we can bypass that construction just east of here. We might even make Pennsylvania faster than we thought."
"Hmm. That's always good to hear." I nod, clapping him on the back while I take another bite of my candy bar.
"Yeah. Problem is we're not going to Pennsylvania." Dean speaks up after getting off the phone, and walks over to the driver's seat.
"Whoa, what?" I ask, perplexed.
"I just got a call from, uh, an old friend. Her father was killed last night. She thinks it might be our kinda thing." Dean tells us nonchalantly, like it's no big deal we are just dropping a job.
"What?" Sam asks, just as perplexed as me at Dean's vague explanation.
"Yeah, believe me, she never would've called, never, if she didn't need us." Dean says before getting in the car. I scoff and look at Sam in disbelief. He only shrugs in response. "Come on. You comin' or what?" Dean calls, turning on the engine. Sam sighs and gets in.
"Unbelievable." I mutter, following after him.
It wasn't even fifteen minutes on the road before Sam started poking at Dean for information on this 'friend' of his. I stayed quiet, just soaking up the information.
"By 'old friend', you mean..."
"A friend that's not new." Dean blandly finishes for Sam.
"Yeah, thanks." Sam chuckles. "So, her name's Cassie, huh? You never mentioned her."
"Didn't I?" Dean plays dumb.
"No."
"Yeah, we went out." I sit up at that and lean forward with a raised, intrigued brow.
"Hold up, Dean Winchester actually dated someone?" I chuckle in confusion, and honestly, in surprise. He didn't exactly seem like someone who would stick to one girl.
"For more than one night?" Sam adds after me. Dean looks between the both of us weirdly.
"Am I speaking a language you two aren't getting here?" He asks.
"Uh, yes, actually. Never heard of such a thing." I joke. Dean pushes my face back in response, making me growl at him as I swat his hand away. "I hate when you do that."
"Dad and I were working a job in Athens, Ohio. She was finishing up college. We went out for a couple weeks." Dean explains simply. I observe the side of his face, and frown a bit. He made it seem like it wasn't a big deal, almost even made it seem like he didn't care, but then why was he so ready to just drop everything and go to her?
"And?" Sam presses. Dean didn't say anything, just purses his lips and shrugs.
"I don't know, Dean, this doesn't seem like our kind of thing. I mean, the car crash with her father is terrible, of course, but, come on." I say, leaning forward again.
"Yeah, which, by the way, how does she know what we do?" Sam asks. Dean cast us a side glance and that was all we needed.
"You told her?!" I gasp. I knew it wasn't easy for hunters to let people in—hell, I'm practically the poster girl for not letting people in.
