"Alright, guys. This is the place." Sam tells us as he steps out the Impala. I shut the trunk after Dean's gotten his things and move onto the sidewalk with Sam.
"You know, I've got to say dad and I did just fine without these stupid costumes." Dean complains.
"I don't know, I kinda like it. I think I look pretty good." I say smugly, looking down at my 'costume'.
I was wearing dark blue coveralls, just like the boys, I had a small tool belt around my waist, and I even had my name stitched into the name tag. I looked legit. Plus, I personally thought it did great for my ass.
"Yeah, well, I feel like a high school drama dork." Sam and I laugh at him.
"What was that play you did? What was it—'our town'! Yeah, you were good. It was cute.""Whoa, hold on, you were in a play?!" I ask Sam in disbelief. He rolls his eyes and smiles a small smile.
"Look, you guys want to pull this off or not?"
"I didn't have a problem with it I said!" I exclaim while chuckling.
"I'm just saying these outfits cost hard earned money, 'kay?" Dean defends.
"Whose?" Sam tests.
"Ours. You think credit card frauds easy?" Dean asks. I roll my eyes and open the door to the apartment building.
"Don't become a complainer now, Winchester." I snort. We met with the short lady who works in the building. Apparently, she was also the one who found the victim.
"Thanks for letting us look around." Sam tells the women as she lets us into the apartment.
"Well police said they were done with the place, so..."
"Right." I hum, closing the door behind me. My eyes flicker to the lock.
Cut, not forced.
Walking into the living room, the blood that was splattered all over the rug was the first thing that caught my attention. Then it was how neat the place was otherwise.
"You guys said you were with the alarm company?" She asks.
"That's right."
"Well, no offense, but your alarm is about as useful as boobs on a man." She deadpans. I look up at Sam with an amused brow raised. He has the same expression and I shrug with pursed lips, glancing down at his pecs. He notices it right away and instinctively crosses his arms over his chest to cover himself. I chuckle silently.
She wasn't wrong.
"Well, that's why we're here. To see what went wrong, to stop it from happening again." Dean tells her as I walk further into the room.
"And it was you that found the body, correct?" I ask her over my shoulder as I check the window for any sulfur in the sill, or marks.
"Yeah."
"Right after it happened?" Sam asks.
"No, a few days later. Meredith's work called. She hadn't showed up. I knocked on her door. That's when I noticed...the smell." She sighs. I step away from the second window and head for the recliner chair, looking for hex bags.
"There wasn't any sign of a break in?" I ask. She looks at me weirdly when I pat down the sofa.
"No, windows were locked. Front door was bolted. Chain was on the door. We had to cut it just to get in."
