Although Slytherin's colors are green and silver, to Severus Snape it is easier to identify him by the deep black of the hair and by the long blue robes only worn by older wizards. It's not fashioned among the boys in his class but Severus doesn't care excessively about fashion and nobody notices him anyway. Not that it matters to him, of course, that they notice it or stop noticing it. He knows that revenge is a dish that is served cold and that one day he will be greater than any of his companions. That inner greatness of him places him very on top of what happens at Hogwarts. Mediocrities matter little to him, like the latest magic world gossip or the sympathy of his companions.

"Useless and unsuccessful circus, that's what they are".

From the first to the last.

He sometimes watches them from his dimly lit corner of the social ladder, and he likes to see that Hogwarts is indeed full of smug -like Black-, arrogant -like Potter-, louts -like Pettigrew-, inept -like Arthur Weasley-, ruffians -like mentioned Gryffindor-, loudmouth -like Malfoy-, ragged -like Lupin- and, naturally, dirtied blooded.

Like Lily Evans.

Severus notices her too. It is inevitable when sharing so many classes and being in the same school. They are in different houses, but you have to be careful with those kinds because you never know what they might be up to.

So sometimes Severus slightly changes his routines and instead of going to Slytherin by the shortest way from the Great Hall, follow the steps from Lily to the changing stairs of Gryffindor and waits for her to pass after the portrait of the stupid Fat Lady.

"Only those squishy Gryffindor losers could have such a hysterical bitch guarding the entrance to their house".

He then turns around and returns to Slytherin, satisfied to comply with his homework. If not him, who is going to see that the mudbloods are under control? That's why he takes a good look at her and doesn't take his eyes off her when he eats breakfast in the dining room and reviews a book - Lily always reads while she eats- and that's why she doesn't stop looking at her when she takes notes in the library or reread Hogwarts Story - Lily is the person who spends the most hours rereading Hogwarts History-.

That is why, early Thursday morning, crouching at several meters from her after a stone column, he can see how Lily walks into the garden and Lupin - that filthy dangerous lycanthrope - assaults her before she gives any step more. Severus feels the fleeting urge to come out of hiding from him and yell at that beast to move away but it restrains itself, among other things, because when he hears what Lupin has to say, neither he nor Lily seems able to move. They are the only ones in the hall and the werewolf seems somewhat suffocated in his tired breath as if he had been running for a long time to find her.

-You're here- he gasps, he grabs her by her arms, as if he wants to hold her so that he would listen well. - Wotcher. The thing is like that.

- What thing?

- To begin with, I did not want to distrust him but it was only a second, and just because he was so mad at Daniel, well, it was just a second but I know he noticed and I screwed it up. Because after that we didn't talk about it and Sirius told me that he didn't like men and that it wasn't that important. So I thought that I just had to forget it so that we were still friends but I couldn't stop thinking about it, neither forgetting it. How can I forget, Lily? And now last night, I don't know, maybe it was the firewisky or maybe it was Sirius being Sirus but I assure you, I swear that he was trying to flirt with me, and I don't know if I imagine it or what, what the heck do I do now.He says it all in one breath. Without giving almost time to breathe, without giving Lily time to say anything. Werewolf, ragged, mongrel, and rude.

- Remus.

- What.

- What the hell are you talking about?

The werewolf takes a deep breath, for the first time.

- That Sirius kissed me Sunday night in the boys' bathroom and it was the most amazing sexual experience of my entire life and I still want to rub against the walls if I remember. And believe me, if I tell you that I remember about it quite often.

Lily can only say one thing.

- Holy Circe!

And Severus, from his hiding place, can only think quite differently.I KNEW IT.

Those Gryffindors. Thugs, conceited, arrogant, ragged, useless, arrogant, idiots, mongrels, beasts, AND ALSO cocksuckers. It's that HE KNEW.
