Remus is gay. a fagot. a ladybug. Lupin is a baby. A little baby girl. A Queer. Remus Lupin is effeminate. From the sidewalk across the street. Weird Marica. Remus is a light-hearted, a homosexual, one of those kinds. Children at his old muggle school yelled at him fag! and was once locked up in the utility room for a whole day. Remus knows he's clumsy and weak and sickly and different. He knows he is smarter and less combative than the other students.

He knows that HE is the bone in which you have to click to make them jump: James Potter and Sirius Black, the indisputable kings of the school. Wizards ahead of their time, extraordinary athletes, born heart-breakers, Marauders per excellence.

Remus is like them, but different. Remus is older, Remus is different. Remus is weaker. Remus is, what everyone knows even if they don't say it, gay.Everybody says it, everybody rumors it, and the rumors, the things that they are not said but they do not stop being counted, they burn like gasoline at Hogwarts, they spread to every corner and come to life like magic paintings that move as they pass. If Sirius hasn't even heard the rumors it must be because being the protagonist of almost all school gossip takes away too much time.

A few days to Halloween, Sirius and James train on their brooms and Remus watches them from the library window. Soaring through the sky a few feet apart. Unattainable and fast. On the back table seemingly engrossed in an Occlumency book, Lily Evans drops her lush red-haired curls on the table and read.

He turns around startled. She continues to stare at the book. When he looks up, Remus first notices those huge green eyes that bring James Potter to life and he understands why exactly his best friend has a hard time falling asleep at night. That look makes him feel safe. 

That afternoon, they do their homework together. Remus helps her with Latin, and Lily just helps.
