Everyone likes "Hey Jude", "Here Comes the Sun", "Yesterday". Even "Lucy in the sky with diamonds". But if Lily Evans had to pick a Beatles song for her funeral, it would be sad, it would be melancholic, and would be "The long and winding road" without any doubt.

While dining under the flags and banners of Gryffindor, even though the gramophone plays "Shake, Rattle and Roll" she hears HER song and she asks how is it possible that she never paid attention to the striking similarities between the Beatles and the boys who sit next to her that night.

-Hey- she asks with studied indifference, -if you ever drink Polyjuice Potion to become the Beatles, which one of you would be John?

As expected James and Sirius - Potter and Black - answer at the same time.

- ME!

And then, as if they couldn't believe it, they ask each other, -You? What do you mean?

- Mate- Sirius puts the cutlery on the table and leans back in the chair, - it is rather a FACT that I, am John in this group.

- And why is that, if it can be known?

James crosses his arms. He doesn't seem willing to let the discussion just go.

- Because I'm the leader, Prongs. Take it or leave it. Also, everyone knows that John gets all the girls. Ergo, I'm John.

- And who the hell am I supposed to be? - James asks, with his mouth open, dumbfounded, and as a matter of fact, too offended.

Sirius doesn't think about it.

- Paul! Paul, mate. You are so Paul that Paul should be called James.

- Oh yeah? Well maybe I'm tired of you being the leader- says James, sarcasm underlining those last words - and perhaps from now on I'll leave you alone to see how you manage because I also have talent, you prick.

- That's so typical of Paul, man. For things like that, The Beatles break up.

- They separated because you hooked up with that crazy woman and you forgot about your friends.

- You see? Even you're admitting now that I am John.

Lily holds back laughter and goes on with her dinner, pretending that she far above such a stupid argument. Sirius gives it an end and returns to his huge plate of lamb. James doesn't eat. James thinks about what he just hears. He doesn't seem happy, and Lily tries not to notice his frown and pout.

- Remus, do you think I'm Paul?

Loyal to his style, Remus answers with a question.

- What's wrong with being Paul?

Sirius doesn't lift his head from the plate.

- And in case you have not caught it, James, I inform you that in Remus Lupin's secret language has been a YES.

Lily is tempted to turn to Sirius and ask how much attention has been borrowing trying to decipher what he calls "Remus Lupin's secret language". She suspects that he, at least, has put more effort into it than in any school subject. She can't help it. She feels touched by it.

-I think Remus is George- she says. And even though Remus directs him one of her disbelieving glances, she continues. -He has as much talent as the others and he sings just as well and writes some beautiful songs but because Paul and John need all that prominence, -she deliberately directs her attention to James and Peter. -He prefers to let them be, and step aside.

Lily thinks all that and more. She thinks Remus is the talent that remains in the shadow of his leaders and enjoys when others stand out, and he could be a star if he stepped up, but he never will be because he doesn't want to take that step and feels comfortable watching, a hand from the light of the sun, under the influence of the moon.

- Remus, damn- James jumps- it's true. You are George. You are totally George.

George is Lily's favorite. He has always been Lily's favorite. She also has always thought that...

-He is the most handsome of the four.

Sirius tosses his fork onto the plate. As if he had seen someone spit on Merlin's grave.

- More handsome than John?

Visibly more distraught, James also asks.

- More handsome than Paul?

- Sorry for your egos, but George is definitely the most Handsome.

James wants to protest but he has no arguments. Lily is sure Sirius is going to protest but Lily, for once, is wrong because Sirius studies something with a frown and watches Remus carefully until he comes to a conclusion that makes him smile with something that can only be malice. When Remus looks away from the plate and meets Sirius's expression flushes subtly but quickly and Lily feels a strange feeling in her stomach because it must be intense and scary and quite amazing that someone looks at you with such intensity.

- It's hard to admit it but the girl is right. - Sirius cleans up remnants of Lamb sauce from the corner of his lips. - Remus is definitely George.

The temperature of the Great Hall rises somewhat more than it's usually common in Scotland and when James's arm brushes Lily's, she pushes away too forcefully. No one has said her name while wiping his mouth with his tongue as if everything about it were edible and premium quality, and it should remain that way. "So don't start to think weird things, Lily".

To Peter, who comes running with mail from his house, talking again about his summer vacation, gets to be Ringo Star. Always in the corner, playing drums. Talented enough to be good at a normal group, but forced to be the least popular in an extraordinary one.
