chapter eight ;; sick bastard (time skip)
❝ Yeah, that's if you make it out alive. ❞
Apparently, you'd been unconscious for a day. Your chakra had slowed, along with the overwhelming pain from fractured bones, deeper wounds than you'd expected, and you trying to fight off the sedation medicine all resulted in your body finally giving out.
It'd taken some time, even after the one day you were in the hospital with nurses working on your less major wounds, for them to heal up. You'd somewhat resembled a mummy, so Inochi said, with how a lot of your body was wrapped up. Your arm was casted, your ankle was wrapped up, along with your other arm from a long cut, and your abdomen to help give 'extra stability' to your sore muscles.
While dealing with your recovery, it came to your attention about the death of the third Hokage. You weren't very fazed by his passing, being that you had bigger worries than a man who was already on the brink of death—, whom you had little respect for in the first place.
However, as a leaf village shinobi, it is unfortunately required that you attend his funeral.
So now, you were preparing to walk into the gloomy environment, which would most likely worsen your mood, as well. You stared outside of your window, watching the raindrops disappear into the heavy fog below.
A low sigh slipped from your lips as you decided it was finally time to leave. After all, you had the boys, and Saya, waiting for you.
You left your bedroom and made your way to the courtyard, where everyone was waiting. Though, once you finally made it, everyone stood up and began to leave without a word uttered.
The walk was silent and very awkward. You were fifty percent sure you were the only one who could care less about the Hokage's death. The atmosphere was heavy and you could tell everyone was in a pretty bad mood, but you were completely fine. The whole time you had your head down, trying to seem as if you cared as well.
Upon arrival, the villagers were standing outside the hokage's mansion while all the shinobi were on the roof. You four excused yourselves and went up as well. Saya was unable to go with you, so she chose to sit and wait away from everyone.
Majority of the crowd was crying. You were just hoping everything would go smoothly and quickly so it'd end. After a while, it was finally your turn to place down a flower. You quickly did so and walked past everyone, satisfied that you could leave now.
You made your way down the steps, searching for Saya's small, yet noticeable figure amongst the crowd of civilians. She was quicker to find you, though, and hurriedly grab you by the back of your dress as she followed behind you.
She was only seven, yet because of the trauma to her head, her memory was lost. She couldn't help but be so clingy to you, forgetting about any of her other loved ones.
However, as the two of you began to walk further away, you could feel a familiar energy begin to overpower your senses. You couldn't put your finger on it, but the more you felt this chakra get closer to you, the more stressed you felt.
Even though you tried to walk away from it, it seemed to have never gone away. Toshiro and Inochi could see you rushing away, so they chose to follow you. After freeing yourself from the large crowd, the boys noticed a certain person behind you. However, they paid them no mind because of how slow they were walking compared to you.
