chapter twenty five ;; finish what you started

Don't tell me it's Neji.

He smiled. "Mm. Possibly. Though, I've been catering to you... would you be interested in trying something else?"

You raised an eyebrow, allowing thoughts to process through your head. It was a short moment of silence to you, but for Neji, it felt like ages. When were you going to respond? What were you going to say? Was he asking for too much? Were you comfortable with being in his presence?

"Uh, actually—," He nervously chuckled, the silence agitating him a bit much.

"Something?" You cut him off. "What are you referring to?"

"N-Nothing, it's nothing. Don't worry about it."

You sighed. "Why are you like this, Hyuga? I'm willing to do something for you and you're dismissing it because you're nervous. There's no reason to be nervous around me, it's just us here."

You watched as veins began to protrude near his eyes, eyebrows furrowing as he looked around. He'd activated his byakugan, making sure no one else was home like you stated.

"...You're lying."

"What—? How am I lying?"

"Saya's here." Neji stood up from your bed, deactivating his Byakugan before walking toward your window. He lifted it, a cool breeze brushing past you two. "Let me know when I can come back inside. I'll be behind that bush."

"You can stay, you know. It's not like she's gonna hurt you."

"Yeah, I'd prefer not to take any chances with her. Maybe you should hide, too."

"I'm not hiding from my sister." You pinched the bridge of your nose.

"Suit yourself." And with that, he jumped out of the window. You closed it behind him, eyeing your closet.

"...Why would I hide?" You thought to yourself. It seemed as if your limbs had a mind of their own, walking you into the closet.

Seconds later, you could hear your door knock. You hadn't responded, but the door opened.

"She's not here? Y/n! Are you... somewhere?" The muffled voice of Saya called out, looking around. "I really wanna tell you about my mission... if you're even here. Damn. I sound like an idiot."

You stood up, opening the doors to your closet. Saya looked back, smiling before a concerned look took over her expression.

"...What were you doing in the closet?"

"Looking for something."

"With the doors closed?"

"...Yep."

"In the dark?"

"Mhm. It's... a form of training. Enhances your shinobi senses. Y'know, seeing and locating."

"Right..." She narrowed her eyebrows.

"How'd your mission go? Tell me all about it."

"Well, we went to an entire different village? I got to fight, too! I was like hyaa! And the guy was like ouch, and I did that technique and it went kaboom and all my teammates were cheering me on because they're weak and I'm not. Also, these missions pay more than my old ones."
