chapter thirty eight ;; roses

"Stop, you're making me blush." He smiled, cheeks going red.

"Well, it's the truth. You're the best dad ever."

He giggled boyishly, twirling his hair in his fingers. "Y-You think so?"

"I know so." You placed your hands on his shoulders. "You're just... so amazing. I appreciate you a lot. I love you, dad."

He cleared his throat. "W-Well, I love you, too. I think you're a great daughter... to me."

"I'm glad." You spoke. "Well, I'm gonna go surprise Neji."

"With what?"

"My presence." You smiled.

He chuckled. "Have fun with that."

"I will."

Meanwhile, Neji was in the Yamanaka flower shop. He just paid for a bouquet of red roses, but he couldn't help but ask Inochi a certain question.

"Why do you hate me?"

"Ah, I'm afraid I don't hate anyone. I do heavily dislike you, though."

"And why is that?"

"Well..." Inochi hummed. "You let that girl control you sometimes."

"Tenten?"

"Mhm. Gosh, she's so... ugh." He rolled his eyes. "And when you let her control you, you affect Y/n. I don't like to see her upset. I love her a lot. I hate to see the people I love be consumed by negative emotions."

"I see. How exactly am I allowing her to control me?"

"When you have a girlfriend, you shouldn't contemplate what another girl tells you. At all. Well—, in certain conditions, like missions, higher ups, y'know. Anyway! Tenten was not on a mission, nor is she a higher up. However, you listen to her, and that's... weird. Also, you just can't seem to tell her to stop. It doesn't necessarily matter if it doesn't make you uncomfortable, but if your girlfriend doesn't like something, majority of the time you should listen to her instead of trying to defend it."

Neji nodded his head.

"I mean, I know, because Shiro likes to do things, but he'd stop as soon as I tell him I don't like it." Inochi shrugged, a smile creeping on his lips. "I love~ him, though. He's so—... wait, sorry!"

"It's... fine."

"But... my ultimate reason for disliking you is your big ego. You're so full of yourself, it's ridiculous. You don't really consider anyone around you, and I don't like that. Things that happen with Y/n just add onto that. Also, I never liked you since back then. I haven't been around you much to try and mend our relationship."

"I understand. My ego is... not as high as it used to be. Thanks to you... and your boyfriend... and Saya."

"Aw, Saya got in on it, too?" He laughed. "That's funny."

"It's not..."

"It is, but... if you want to gain my liking, treat Y/n right. That's all I ask. You have nothing to do with me, so there's not much you can do but keep your ego low around me. Still, as long as you keep a smile on Y/n's face, I'll like you. I mean, you've already done that. It shouldn't be hard. After all, you just bought her yet another bouquet. That's already one thing I like to see."
