chapter thirty three ;; animosity

❝ Y'know, you're a real pain in the ass. ❞

You groaned tiredly, stretching your limbs as you turned over. Your arm landed on Neji's side, your eyes opening at the impact. His hands were resting on your legs, gently stroking your skin.

"Did you sleep well?"

"A little. My legs are sore. They've never felt like this before... it feels weird."

"I'm sorry. That might be my fault. Did you enjoy yourself, at least?"

"Mhm."

"I'm glad."

"Wait—, is it time for training? Am I late? What time does your team start training?" You questioned, sitting up from your bed.

"We start in about an hour. I'm usually the second one there, mainly because Lee is so enthusiastic about training. I think I overslept a bit, though." He yawned. "I'm gonna go home and get ready. Are you going to be okay?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine."

"Wait, why'd you ask what time my team starts training?"

"Well, you're the only team that trains together, and Masagi asked Guy sensei if we could train with your team because Haruka was going into labor soon."

Neji hummed. "I see. Should I come back to walk with you?"

"No, it's fine. I have to hurry and leave, though, because I don't want Lee to come banging on my—."

Your words were cut off as the sound of knocking resonated through your ears. The knocking was hard on your front door, loud enough to alert any and everyone in the house that someone was outside. You sighed lowly, suspecting it was none other than Lee. However, despite Neji insisting on getting the door, you didn't want to take the risk of someone seeing him in your house that shouldn't.

You managed to make it downstairs, albeit your legs were trembling and you could barely stand up straight.

"Speak of the devil." You muttered under your breath.

"Huh—?"

"Nothing. What's up, Lee?"

"I was coming to see if Neji was here."

"...Why would he be here?"

"Well... I've noticed that you two have been hanging out a lot recently, even though he was gone on a mission for quite some time. I figured he may have been here to see you, since I couldn't find him at the training grounds or anywhere in the Hyuga compound. But, I'm guessing he's not here, so—."

"He's here. He's... in my room."

"Oh! I apologize if I'm disturbing anything!"

"N-No! It's not like that, Lee!" You stammered.

"Ah... I'm sorry." He sulked. "Will you two come train with us? Not even your teammates will spar with me until they know you're okay."

You huffed. "I guess..."

"Thank you, Y/n!" Lee tightly wrapped his arms around you, feeling as though he was crushing your lungs.

"Y-Yeah, yeah, j...just let me go." You whispered, voice barely able to get any louder from how tight his embrace was.
