chapter six ;; bond of two
(before i begin this chapter i wanted to clear up the confusion in chapter 2, where masagi desperately wanted to tell the reader he loved her. i meant that as a father-daughter type of love. despite him not being her real father, he's attached to her as if he is. i hope this helps:)

Your stomach began to twist. You swallowed thickly at this feeling. You weren't exactly sure how to identify it. Was it embarrassment? Gratefulness?

"Neji..." That'd been the first time you could remember saying just his name without either of you being pissed off.

It had a nice ring to it when you said it, so Neji thought.

"Y/n, are you alright?" He stepped closer toward you, reluctantly placing his hands on your shoulders.

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine."

"I shouldn't have left you like that. I'm sorry."

"No, don't worry about it."

"If you say so. Will you... be alright on your own?"

"Yeah. Where's Masagi?"

"That, I don't know."

You felt so embarrassed, it felt like it was embarrassing to even be in your own body. You? Protected by your rival? That's a decrease to your ego in your opinion. You turned your head away from him and closed your eyes as you sulked.

Neji raised his eyebrow, then it hit him. "Are you ashamed you had to have me save you?"

"S-Shut up!"

"Don't worry, you'll get strong soon. In the meantime, I'll be there to protect you."

"I'm already strong! Stronger than you, for that matter! Why must you be such a tease during a village crisis?"

"I have to go back to Lord Hiashi. I won't be able to save you anymore, so you're on your own from now on."

"Whatever."

When he left, you chose to be much more alert and try to work past the medicine. Since Guy and Kakashi were the only people in sight, you chose to go to them.

The two were currently in the middle of fighting, so they couldn't answer right away. You realized Haruka was also over there. Chances are, Kakashi and Guy probably wouldn't even notice you, so you went to her instead.

"Haruka sensei?" You spoke.

"Oh, Y/n. I'm glad you're safe. How are you feeling?"

"Uhm... I'm moving really slow, sensei."

"I know."

"But I'm trying to work past it! Anything you need me to do—!"

"I don't want you to force yourself." She replied sternly.

"Just give me something! I'll do it!"

She sighed. "Go find Toshiro and Inochi. If you aren't back in forty five minutes, you're gonna get it."

"Y-Yes ma'am!"

Immediately, you left to go find the two boys. The village was full of smoke and dust from the buildings catching on fire or collapsing. You haven't seen anything like this since the nine-tails attack. Not that you remembered it that much being you were only three at the time it happened.
